Hi everyone, two of my discus have paired and began to lay eggs on a piece of driftwood in my tank. They were laying the eggs the first and second days after I did my water changes . I decided to remove the wood from my tank and replace it with a breeding cone. I did the wc and one of the pair started to clean the cone as if they were going to lay eggs on the cone. My intention was to remove the cone and try to hatch the eggs myself, but it didn’t work. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.115060

Hi Navarro, so the pair did not spawn? Perhaps the pair needs more time with the cone.

Agree with Pat. Just some patience should do here.

Discus fry require parental care. Artificial feeding of fry is possible, but extremely labor intensive. Is that what you mean?

Yes Willie that’s exactly what I mean . I’ve read some of Jack Wattley’s articles on raising discus fry away from their parents. I have everything I need to raise them, all I need is the eggs. One thing I have is 4 forty gal. plastic barrels which I age the water needed to make wc’s , so fresh water is always available. They always eat their eggs so that’s why I decided to try the Wattley Way. If this works I have a 75 gal. and a 29 gal. to raise the fry. So Monday I’ll do another wc and practice patience and see what happens. Thanks Pay , SNap0283 and Willie for your help. If this works i’ll Post it with pics.
