I love my DSlrs... nothing beats them for image quality and versatilty. But smart phones really can take some seriously nice pictures. Heres one I recently snapped that I really like. What do you think?

Anybody have any phone pics they think came out really cool or interesting?

You never know when an interesting picture presents itself.

Just snapped this one as I sit in a waiting room. Sky let loose moments latter and the clouds turned flat gray.. wish I could catch a pic of the lightning.

Last Friday at the Freedom Tower.

What a beautifully framed photo. I only have one suggestion that i believe would improve it, and that is bumping up the contrast just a smidgen. Or, alternatively, if you lower your shadows, it will darken the foreground leaves and may offer better overall contrast to the shot.

Dave Cal
07-26-2018, 08:20 PM
Ricardo, I understand bumping up the contrast but what post processing darkens the leaves? Can I do that and not loose the softness of the reflection of the sky and clouds on the building.

Hey Dave, pushing and pulling your shadows is a little more involved as far as processing is concerned but there are a lot of free programs out there that allow you to do this. I will let you know of the latest one i am using that again, is free and gives you a lot of editing options without paying the large bucks $$$. Darkening the shadows will not affect the sky as it will only target the darker items within the image.

Patty, this crawfish was simply walking across the road when we saw it. I hopped out of the car and got down on the road to take it's picture. When I did that it flared up at me in a defensive manner which made the image even better. :D I did pick it up and walked it to the water.

Thank Al, there is a cute story behind this pic. I was returning to my car after a meeting with my local camera club. I was one of the first ones out and I saw the snail. I got on my hands and knees and was taking it's pic with the phone on the ground and soon I had all the help I could stand. Folks trying to give me a white background, extra light with their phones and some asking me what the heck I was doing (they thought I was praying) lol. The snail was not it's happy little self with all the commotion and retracted into it's shell a bit.

I answered a craiglist ad for a tropical plant (dieffenbachia) that some one was giving away. They were having a tough time keeping it alive . It gets pretty big and this plants pot was huge. She had just repotted it with a good potting mix. I took it home and had it on my deck a few days. Noticed some mushrooms starting yesterday.Today they openned..

Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, aka Lepiota lutea, the yellow houseplant mushroom.

It literally is a common mushroom of house plants.. But I have never seen one.

Guess I got a 2 for 1.:)

Thanks Al . I' am vacating in Greece right now , on the beach shore below the Olimpus mountain (the mountain known as a home of Zeus and all the other gods from the Greek mythology :) ) . It's only a 3 hours drive from my home so oftentimes we come here on vacations .
Photos are taken with (Xiaomy Mi A1 ) cell phone camera and they look decent to me for a cheap 150 $ cell phone .

P.S .
I guess this has been aready discussed here but I wonder if anyone can recommend some good and user friendly mobile applicationn for playing and editing Photos for dummies ?

Got the same phone myself after my LG gave me the blue screen of death. I like the "plain vanilla" Android One with no bloatware (my pet hate), pity no OIS on the camera. Was looking at other decent Android One smartphones, Nokia 6+ also looks good but still no OIS let's hope the it next flagship ticks all the boxes. Also want microSD storage so that rules out OnePlus...the search continues.
P.S. hope you enjoyed your holls, sure looks like a nice spot!

Just a biological fact that you cant judge whether a mushroom is edible because you see an animal eat it. They have enzymes we lack to break down the poison.... think of milkweed and monarchs. they can eat it milkweed but we cant... well we can but we have to boil.the milkweed in several changes of water. The amanita is poisonous boiled or not though... its not a mushroom we can eat.

Its kind of funny but I was driving through a congested urban area and making a turn. Traffic was bad so I sat and waited and saw this truck for sale for about $3000. I looked closer and realized the owner had strung up an electric fence all around the old truck? I think thats a sure sign you don't want to leave your vehicle parked in the neighborhood!

I totally understand. There is the bottom line. My wife and I have actually started talking about needing to take bigger trip, at least around the state, that we haven't done in a while. I might look you up if we're up that way. I'm near Medford and we know the Willamette valley pretty well. A trip up the gorge and circling back around sounds like something we might do. I've actually flown over the area several times recently.

USS Alabama in Mobile..

122141

One of my favorite aircraft! Cool jet, bad location for a photo shoot... SR-71

122142

F-14 Tomcat! My uncle was on the team that restored this F-14. It originally crashed and was a total lose for military use. The Tomcat is no longer manufactured, so the team reconstructed it from scratch and mounted it in front of the Naval Air Museum at Pensacola NAS.

If you've ever seen an old jet mounted, they are usually not in great condition. This one is perfect in every way and even held its ground against 163 mph wind produced by hurricane Ivan, which nearly destroyed the base in 2004.

I wouldn't say that these shot are really cool, but i like how my phone brings out some good colors in the pics.
This is one of my favorite places when i go away on the peninsula, especially at low tide which exposes the reef at the entrance of Port Phillip Bay. The place is called Point Londsdale

Nice one Joe. Love aussie scapes. I'll be home in May for 3 weeks. Looking forward to that, and restocking my waning vegemite supply, lol.
BTW, my 11 & 12 year old sons each harvested their 1st deer this past Jan. We now have enough red meat to last us through until next Sept, and enough deer heart discus food tonlast the same time frame.
Cheers mate!

That's my plan. These discus are stunning, even considering the poor care they received during the most critical grow out stage! I have 2 pair that have been laying for several months now but since I dislocated my shoulder I haven't been able to finish my fish room. I'm hoping to have then in their own tanks soon ;)

Cool mate. What strain are they considered?

The person I got them from wan't sure because the parents were not what he ordered. They resemble the Mandarin Passions from earlier years but more on the orange side. Many people come up with their own names these days, and someone on FB called them Tangerine Dreams (made up). I kinda like the sound of that, lol... :D

thanks to everybody who voted for my picture last month i appreciate it guys.

i got another one today at the beach. it's not that interesting, but i like the way the sand was slick enough for the gulls to have quite a clear reflection. anyway thought i'd share!

i think they're this species (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-headed_gull).
