Heard a clunk on the kitchen floor and saw the discus go into major panic mode. Lasted about 5 seconds but holy moly, talk about a fright, me too. All good though. Never saw the discus like that ever. They can indeed get a fright with the "vibration" I guess. Wife dropped a knife block and clunk. I didn't yell at here..haha.

wow that concerns me a little... we have our tank in our family room on lower level. Just above that is our master bathroom. The floor needs replacing involving removing old tiles and possibly some wood underflooring.
I am sure there is going to be some vibration. wonder if there is something like a sound dampening blanket/cover we can put over it while work goes on

Well, a better description in my case here, would be "sudden impact" rather than vibration if you know what I mean. This impact was 6 feet from the tank.

Or noise? If you see discus spooking and you are walking towards the tank stop and hold still until they stop.

I would consider starting some kind of simulation of the mayhem to come and gradually ramping it up as the fish get used to it

If they can get used to remaining stranded flat in 1" water, syphoning, wiping the tank and what not, I am sure you can get them used to a bit of remodelling

117979 Yup, it can be pretty disturbing. Good thing she landed on the linoleum.

Psycho Mom jumped out of the tank when I got close to feed her after she had babies, and the lid was only cranked a wee small bit.
