Been out the discus game a while and am looking to get back in. Debating about a 4 foot 120 or a 6 foot 125 gallon tank. Would the stocking levels be the same based on gallon or would the shape make stocking options different. Thinking about 8 adults.

Eight discus would fit quite comfortably in either tank. I think the 120 is roughly 4x2x2 (feet). Personally I love the 24 inch depth. Go look at both tanks in person and see which one you prefer. One thing to consider is where it will fit in your house.

10 gallons of water per 1 full grown discus is the ussual stocking rule for discus . You should lower stocking number a bit if the tank is Odd shape and lacks lenght or width, especially lenght .

4x2x2 120 gal tanks have very nice proportions, but 6' gives more running room. It's personal preference since your stocking density is relatively low.

I have place in my home for either. The depth is really nice but I have never owned a 6 foot tank. My largest was a custom 5 foot 175 gallon which I kept 10 discus in comfortably. I am trying to stock low so I can do WCs a bit less frequently, like 20-30% every 3rd day or so.

I am having a hard time finding a place that stocks tanks locally. Petco sell a 125 gallon complete set-up, most box stores in my area top out a 55 gallons.

Most local pet stores should be able to order in a tank for you. Aqueon, Marineland, etc

Folks have mentioned the difficulty of getting to the bottom of a 24 inch high tank, for cleaning. I like the 6-foot idea, myself, although I'm not there yet :)
