I have some 5 inch Discs in my 90 gallon tank. Hopefully 2 will pair up. When this does happen I would like to put them in their own tank. I have a 20 gallon and a 55 gallon tank. Which one would be better for them? Seems to me the 20 is too small and the 55 is too big?

I kept my old RBT in both size tanks before. In the 55, the pair made full use of the tank and acted very naturally (courtship, posturing, etc.). In the 20, they ate and laid eggs, but that's about it. There wasn't much room for anything else.

I was thinking the same thing. But some people say the fry will get lost and not be able to feed off the parents. Don’t know how true that is? What do you think?

With some pairings, fry may not attach. In general, that’s not related to tank size. I’ve had fry do well in 55-gallon tanks. If attachment is a problem, I would use a 20 and drain most of the water so that they’re in 7-8 gallons. But you’re a long ways from that point.

Good luck, Willie

Ok. Thanks. Like you said I’m a long time from that point. But I will try the 55. My main concern is that I don’t have to buy a new tank like a 29 gallon.
