It's not uncommon for this to happen when a mature fish has the conditions it is kept in change dramatically. All you can do now is wait and see. Is there another fish hanging around this one? I've seen both female lay eggs alone and two females lay eggs together and afcourse what we all want a pair male/female pair. Only way to know for sure is if the eggs hatch. Just watch them. three things can happen: 1) they remain clear and hatch. 2) they turn white. 3) they get eaten.

Hi Rick,
yes there is another fish hanging around i suspect its a male but a very young male, i hjave a third discus in the tank that is largest and the female was hanging around him, whilst the young male wouldn't allow him to come anywhere near her.

what i have found is that those orginal eggs layed i suspect have been eaten whilst the pair didnt guard theem very well just arrived home and a new batch has been layed ...is this normal ??

hope above makes sense !!

Then you may have a least two females. It is normal for females to go into a ''period"....whether egg layers or livebearers;with or without males.

A female discus in cycle will lay eggs about every 7 days. If you have two full batches of eggs laid just a day or two apart they were laid by two different females. Having spawning success in a community tank is rare. Not because the fish can't spawn but because something in the tank will likely either eat the eggs or the fry. I'd just chill, enjoy the discus, and maybe figure out what sex the various discus are if you really want to go down that path.
