I know it is common for people and distributors to add free samples of food or other dry goods when they are shipping an order, but how common is it to receive a shipping manifest that shows free live fish (and not the specie that was ordered)?

I know it is common for a breeder to throw in an extra one - three fish of the same specie ordered, but I was informed that the "free samples" (two juvenile fish) are of a variety that are totally different from what was ordered.

I am greatful that I have breeder boxes to put the "free sample" fish in so that they have a place to stay temporarily (a day or two) as this particular specie that was sent free won't work in my tanks as they grow big enough to cause havoc.

I ordered some Rams, and while I am getting them the breeder sent two blue acara, and I just don't see Acara working in a tank with Discus.

Crikey, this is a new one! One of the retailers I use always throws in the extra fish or two (and I should think so, he is not cheap by a long shot), but always of one of the species I ordered. I would not be best pleased getting unwanted extras. BTW has anyone tried Acaras with discus? For my future pipe dream giant tank the thought had crossed my mind...

I have blue acaras in my pond and, for the most part, while I'm out there, I noticed that they seem very docile. I've never seen them peck or go after another fish. Definitely one of the more tamer cichlids I've seen.

If it doesn't work for you, I'd gladly buy them from you, but I think shipping two fish isn't practical on the budget side.

I am not set up for shipping. I was able to find someone to take them when they get to me.

I usually get a couple three extra fish when I order, but like Paul they are always the same specie. sort of like ordering freshwater shrimp ordering 10 usually gets a total of 12-15, but they are all the same strain and specie.
