Hi people, I'm Chris and I'm in Australia. I am just starting out in the discus world, and have been watching Als info.

Looking forward to making this great.

G'day Chris. Welcome to SD mate. I grew up in Brissy, lived in Perth for 12 years, and am now in Cincinnati Ohio. This site is a cracker for all things discus and beyond...like a pie with sauce and a coldy at the MCG...great for the fishy soul lol. Anyway bloke don't be shy. Lookin forward to hearing your plan and seeing it come to fruition.
Take it easy mate.

Thank you for the welcome guys. I live in Townsville in north Qld, and I'm 36. My discus project is a complete new build setup. I have started to go through he sticky threads and excuse me but I have only just started reading them.
I have pics to post from the beginning, which includes from delivery of my tank. I am looking at using a very small amount of substrate just to cover the bottom, some schist rock and some plants in pots. but have mainly an open water column.

I will post more pics of the set up as I go, so I hope you like it.

This is it so far.

A banana bender...awesome...me too!!
That tank is a BEAST!! Looking forward to tracking your build mate. Nice to be able to weld and build your stand and canopy yourself. Very cool.
Following with interest...

Ok. So Im running a sump with my big tank, well 2 sumps actually.. (both 3 foot tanks) the first will be a mechanical and biological filter system, and that will flow into the second which will house plants for nitrate removal before going back to the main display.
Looking at the rule of thumb everyone has with how many discus, I was thinking about 20 minimum ( hopefully 10 pairs all different) in the main tank...

Thoughts??

Hi Chris,

welcome from me aswell. Looks like killer project, love the height of the tank.

Given the volume of tank and sumps you can go with 25-30 Discus easily if that’s the aim you have.

Looking forward to seeing this develop in the near future.
