View Full Version : Are the corries in the way?

I have I think 10 sterbai corries. They've all been in my 75 gal discus community tank, avoiding the rams and shrimp tanks. I don't think the discus appreciate them. I'm thinking they're too active or would eat eggs if I put them anywhere else. I'm not liking them at the moment. Any thoughts?

Me. I'll pay. To be honest, I don't really believe that they're bothering your Discus.

Hi Steve;

I keep three dozen sterbais in my 110 gal with six large discus. I don't ever see them bothering the discus (actually nothing seem to bother these guys). But the sterbais are a riot when you keep them in large numbers!

Do you breed them, Willie or just enjoy them? Now I'm hot for 3 dozen Sterbais. I will never be able to keep my fish desires in check.

Thanks guys.
They're just so active. I was assuming the discus would never get down to business with them all running about. I guess the discus would keep them in check if they were interested.

Sterbai are fairly easy to spawn. They lay egg, 2 - 3 in a batch, on the side of the glass. I started by scraping these off and setting them on top of a sponge filter. The fry feed on the infusoria in the java moss. The wild specimen spawns readily between September and January. Later, I realized that all I needed was just a huge clump of java moss and an occasional zucchini. This species is now spawned in Florida ponds at a price point that doesn't justify getting my sleeve wet before going to work every morning.

My guys are in a 110 gal tank, so there's no way to reach the eggs. No java moss either since I change 70% - 90% of the water every day. They're just for enjoyment.

Check out Aquastock in the Corydoras section of AquaBid and contact him for a direct quote. I was able to get them delivered to my fishroom extremely cheaply.

Thanks, Willie. I'd love to breed them and my LPS would love to buy them from me. Even if I can't breed them they would be a hoot to watch.
