Well, wondering if it's a good time to take the parents out and move them. The brood are 2 weeks old and eating bbs and shaved bh and shaved bloodworms. They still graze on the parents when not feeding on the bottom or bbs. What do you think?????????????????????? Jim in Ohio

What size tank is that? It looks like a 29.

Generally I'm in favor of keeping the parents with the kids for 3 weeks, but you have a big bunch of fry there. If you can't move them to a 55 gallon, I'd remove them.

I know. The fry all seem to be healthy and well grown for just two weeks,

Well, I have been changing water twice a day and I might be off on free swimming date by a couple of days. Yes Liz it's a 29 gallon and which ones should be moved the parents or the fries?

The first step is to remove the parents. Soon you will need a larger tank to grow out those nice fry.

So you keep yours with the parents for 3 weeks, why, sorry to be so subtle

I would move both the parents and the fry to the 65. But your fry look good so you should do as you see fit.

And Jim I forgot to mention that I would closely monitor the fry and when it looks like they are pretty much weaned off the parents generally 3 to 4 weeks, and they are feeding good on their own I would move the parents, there is less chance of injury or shock in moving them just make sure your parameters are close between the two tanks, and also you should be able to grow the juvies to a pretty good size in the 29 ,your better able to concentrate the food in a smaller tank and when the juvies are big enough you can move them to the 65 and put your breeders back in the 29 and start the whole process over again, but eventually your gonna need more tanks as your gonna be overwhelmed with juvies, ain't it great.

Jeanne the breeders are a male Curipera from Kenny's & Forrest's discus he's at 6.5" and she's a 5.5" Eruption also from K&F discus. I am going to watch them closely for them to just stay feeding off of the parents. I have fed chopped up live BW's to my fry before in a variety but not exclusive. So yes I'll keep you in mind when I hopefully able to get them to sellable size. Thanks for the info Jim in Ohio
