Reeflowers Pearl White Sand?

Thinking of restarting my 180 planted Discus tank. Does anyone used Reeflowers Pearl White Sand for the substrate with success?

Yes, this is a very nice substrate. I have heard good reviews about this one. :) May I also recommend CaribSea Super Natural Moonlight Sand? It is very nice. For my tank I just bought quartz sand from a hardware store, rinsed it and added it. It has a very light colour.

I went to the Aquatic Experience this past weekend and seen the Pearl White up close and personal, I have to say it is the whitest sand I have ever seen in an aquarium. I know it is okay for plants and African Cichlids, but I want to make sure the it is safe for Discus before I invest.

The problem with reef sands is they are usually not inert, meaning they increase your kH by slowly releasing carbonate into the water. Essential for the reef tank, great for rift lake cichlids, but not good for the softer water FW tank. Inert sand is better for discus unless you have pH swings caused by low kH.

Daniel, That sand looks beige from the picture, but I would like white sand I think if you seen it you would want it as well. I plan on making a 20 gallon water change a day and I have an RO/DI available to soften the water. I also have plenty of drift wood. I know that Reeflowers Pearl White sand raises the PH to about 8.1 to 8.4 and Discus thrive at PH of 6.5. so I need to find something that does not change the PH.

It looks like it's more for Rift Lake African cichlids. Lots of calcium in it and would make your ph too great for discus. Might be good if you have no KH and put some in the filter, but still not a good substrate for discus. From what I've read.

Oh!! and plants don't like ph above 7 or so. 5.5-6.8 is best for plants, otherwise they can't take up nutrients well.

You're worried about the pH when what you should be most concerned is the kH. Danny said the same thing, I just wanted to emphasize it.

I’m using reeflowers for many years, always used natural sand and had great results. But you must be sure natural sand, pearl white will be rise ur ph.
