One of my new young pairs spawned for Christmas, but the male was stupid and ate the eggs. For the New Year the other pair has spawned. The eggs were laid last night. I didn't see the male fertilize but I didn't watch them the entire time. All I know is that the eggs are still there this morning and the parents, especially dad is guarding and fanning. This is the better quality of the two pairs so I'm very happy to see their success even if it is early on.

I'm glad your fish are in the Christmas/New Years spirit! I hope they are successful with this spawn!

Armando and Tom, I never expected fish to celebrate holidays. The longer I have these fish, the more they teach me.

I'm the opposite, Jeanne. I'm a bit afraid of what they will surprise me with every time I go down to the fish room. But I always tell people to give the fish good care and time and eventually they will reap the reward.

Pat, If they make it work I'll be in heaven. As you know, and as Jeanne said, It's been a long long wait.

My egg was fertilized in the Christmas season and I hatched out great mid September! My hopes are your Christmas eggs follow suite!

Oh rats. Early this morning my eggs were still there. Around 10 it looked like were some missing. I just got back from the grocery store and they were poof...gone. Heck I was stupid when I first came to breeding age myself. I can't blame the fish...They'll get it right soon. Poor things aren't even full grown really.

I bet they will eventually get it right Liz. Maybe the other pair will too, and you will be having 2 batches of fry to raise this year!

They'll both figure it out. It just tanks practice. The Christmas pair spawned again, but their eggs are the same color as the terracotta cone and I don't know if I got the tea in the water soon enough. Eggs are gone this morning but I didn't know for sure until I pulled the cone out of the water as the pair were still loving up to the cone. I wish I could switch the cone for a light colored one, but they reject all other cones. Go figure...
