Our fry 9 days old and parents flicking them off constantly, they won't eat BBS only off parents. How do I encourage them to eat food rather than off parents?

Are you feeding live or frozen baby brine shrimps......perhaps feeding crushed flakes food or freeze dried blackworms (chopped).

We tried but they wouldn't leave parents to eat BBS. We have put some fine beef heart in to see if they venture from parents because parents are getting over it

Hi Odette, try placing the live BBS over the parent with fry and let the BBS drift down to the fry.

^^ This is what I did ^^
I am a first timer so I just dribbled in BBS right over the parents and fry .
Most days the parents slime was so thick some of the BBS stuck to them.
Some fry definitely started learning to the BBS directly off the parents first before realizing ..
My second set of fry just attached yesterday so today I dribbled just a little in …
I kept my fry with mom until about 3 weeks when they were eating everything I offered and then moved them .
Do you have Golden pearls ?

They starting to drift bit further from parents but not far. Atm still in breeding tank of 120 litres. Fry 10 days old. I will try put BBS over parents. Today we notice fry going to bottom where BH and pellets are.
Mom now got scratch on her, we taking her out.
She smaller than dad, this her 1st batch but he has had many

Hi what are golden pearls?

They are a high protein food that can be had in different sizes ,some appropriate for fry .
I get mine from Kens fish ; https://kensfish.com/collections/kens-specialty-food/products/golden-pearls-100-200-micron
I start my fry on the 100-200 They are considered on of the most buoyant foods which keeps them in the water column longer ..

I was consistently able to wean fry from slime and bbs to minced up beefheart by the 14-day free swimming stage. The change in growth rate is incredible once they switch to beef. Keep it minced and they'll eventually try it. Golden pearls, frozen brine shrimp, etc., really do not support good fry growth after this time.
