Nice mate. What is the strain bred to the BD? Can't see the other fish clearly...

I am no strain ID'ing expert but I would call it a blue scorpion or a snake skin cross. Anyone else?

Jeffkhng

Wow! Maybe that explains why I see up to 3-4 different types of fry in my batch?

I raised some fry from Al Sabetta's fine line snake skin pair. There was blue snake skin, red snake skin, and a variety of Turk types all from the same parents. Very interesting to see the throw backs from the strains used in the development of a strain.

These are some close-up of the baby fish. Seems to show a few different strains inside?

Yes you definitely have some Turk types, snake skins and solid blues. What a fun grow out project! Well done Jeff

Haha nice one Jeff! There's a bunch of wiggler's there mate  When it rains it pours right Tom!! We spend so much time trying to help our fish get it right and when they do it's a fry downpour!!

Hi Danny, what's the typical % hatch rate? I don't think I'm even getting 50%.
I'm not sure if I'm getting fungus then losing eggs or losing eggs because they are not fertilized and then fungus gets to them.

Looks like the eggs are fertilize on the third or fourth day then they fungus up. Medication like MB may help you get an larger % .

Yup! Spamming MB from day 1. Maybe I'll have to increase dosage.

Leaving the MB in longer for at two and half days, will give a nice hatch rate.

Hi Jeff. I have only ever had wiggler's so I don't really know what % is the norm. Things that may affect fertilization could be high water flow near the spawning site, distractions/disruption from other fish or people, or fungus like Cliff said. Some people cover the front of tank for privacy, sides as well of there's fish right next door. I'm pretty sure I have read here that Liz and Tom actually drizzle undiluted MB directly over the eggs as well as adding to water, hopefully they will chime in. I am not experienced at all with breeding discus, and the only fry I have raised were already 2" that I received from CaptainTom. I'm enjoying your progress mate!

Hi cliff!
Do you mean to say to add MB 2 days before eggs are laid?

Hi cliff!

Add the MB one hour after laying eggs and remove the MB after two and half days.
