Last night one of my 8 discus jumped out of a 1 inch opening in the back where the hoses are,he fell up against an open air duct and got a bad abrasion with a small amount of skin hanging from it.He is in a 90 gallon tank that is over filtered and 30% water change every other day no exceptions. My question is do I medicate to prevent infection or just keep an eye on him.Except for the mark he is acting normal and eating well...thanks

I'd QT him and treat him with 3 tablespoons of salt per 10 gallons. Do a WC every day and replace the salt for the amount you removed in WC,

I agree with Liz. I had the same happen to a beautiful Blue Scorpion. The salt is a good way to go. Rather than quarantine tank I treated the entire tank. In less than a week's time the fish was healed.

There is no reason to treat the entire tank. The his plants won't appreciate the added salt. Besides all treatments, even treatments with salt, work better in a BB tank.

+1 w Liz if you have a QT tank, that way you can also monitor it feeding after the big shake up. Good nutrition, not having to compete for food, plus the clean water with the 3tbs/10gal salt will heal it up quick smart.

Give us an up-date in 5 days. You should see noticeable improvement by then.

O.K. after 6 days in quarantine with salt and daily water changes he is doing great and back in the main tank.I am surprised at how quickly he responded so thanks. He already is with his girl friend and protecting the eggs.First pic is him yesterday and second is the gang before before Evil Kneivel took his trip.

Discus do heal quickly as long as you do what is needed to help them. Good job!

No surprise. Good catch, Doogy. Glad that the treatment was a successful one.
