third tank is my fav amongst the other. What strain is the blue discus with orange color head and the big orange discus with fine white lines in 3rd tank?

Mike both are Hans discus the bluish one with orange head is a Dark angel and the orange one is a pigeon snake skin.

Gorgeous man. Love the SAE and a huge fan of the rainbows. They're so adorable to watch.

Discus of course are the prettiest though that gold ram is pretty neat

Wow! You have your hands full! The tanks all look pristine. The plants are in excellent shape as well. I’ve never had substrate in mine. I did have some nice ones growing on a big piece of driftwood but I didn’t want it possibly contaminating my new group. So I have the big sterile glass box look going. Yours are beautifully natural looking. Nicely done. I think the dog needs to go out though! :D

What Cliff said. I don't know if I've ever seen tanks that pristine. Must be hard work.

Nice tanks, love the clowns. Are those plants in plastic containers? I might have to steal that idea.

Iminit
12-27-2020, 08:36 PM
Thanks again for the comments :)! Yes blue those are plastic containers I bought at a discount store. There about a foot long and 4” wide by 3”deep. So I put most of the plants in those with some root tabs. Plants are doing good. But I’m growing algae on the top of the wood so I may have to adjust the lights some. 130011

I really like the sump

Iminit
12-28-2020, 03:54 PM
Shan that’s a wet/dry filter. It does have what referred to as a sump in the front. I have added some bags of media in there. No clue if it’s doing anything.

Here’s a year later video
http://youtu.be/QEmRGO2ugkk. Some things have changed. Had a few discus that just never grew to size. Moved 5 into the 90. Added about 9 discus between the 2 big tanks. Lost 2 since last year. The red cover and the dark angel.

Nice Tom. Tanks and plants look great! So I was just reading the issue with planted tanks with gravel is vacuuming the gravel in the root zones. So how DOES one keep the gravel clean in a planted tank?
I like the bb look better I think.

Iminit
04-03-2023, 10:16 AM
Greg I vacuumed the whole gravel. I went down to the bottom and around all roots. Plants grew great. Never had a tank made problem. The tanks in the first video those discus grew from 2.5” to 5.5” in those tanks. So it can be done. My first major problem came from new discus brought into the house. Whatever they had spread into both my other tanks. The heavy salt I used on the first tank would have killed most of those plant. So the plants were moved. I went bb after that. Got to say I’m not a fan. I like the planted look. Another big thing with planted tanks is Malaysian trumpet snails. They do a great job cleaning the gravel.

I am happy to see the black rams that I gave you are doing well. I only have a few Blacks and maybe i or two pairs to sell. I am trying to empty my 75 gallon to make room for a 75 or 90 gallon acrylic and I don't want to add to the tanks I just want to replace the glass tank (bad shape lots of scratches for the prior owner) and go with another BB tank. Probably good for grow out tank eventually. There is a Clear for life 90 gallon locally in good shape and he wants for all $550 but would like to make him an offer for just the tank I have the stand for the 75 that fits the 90.

I’d say you should be able to get it cheaper. Funny thing about acrylic is people are scared of them. I’ve got a 90 137035 was my first acrylic. Got a guy out east who has one up for I think 150. He drilled out 2 holes in the back for a sump. Been debating it. Probably put some bulkheads on it to seal it. But I’d want it cheaper. It’s been up for months! Next time I’m out there I may go look at it.

As of now I’ve got 8 fry at about 1.5” that seem to be back on track. 1 fry that was bloated I have in a 5g. It’s seems to be improving. First one that had improved after being removed. Was bloated but it looks like it’s been releasing whatever was bloating it. And the 2 runt I removed at week 3 that are now fine but half the size of the others.

You could solvent weld a patch on the inside to cover where it was drilled. It would be just as strong as the solvent welded seams of the tank and less noticeable.

The tank I made him an offer for $300 only used 6 months. Depends what he has besides stand light and canopy $400 for all.

Tom,
Any insights on searching for good pricing on acrylic tanks? Actively beginning to look for a 55-90g.
I know you posted petco had a 50% sale once.

PetSmart has them any ware from 20% to 40% off for Clear For Life. I got my 125 for 20% and 4 weeks later I saw them for 40%. I don't think Petco has Acrylic. No sales at PetSmart today just have to keep an eye out. Also free shipping.

Frank for new i recommend petsmart. Used to be other online wholesale’s selling but they’ve stopped. Petsmart has sales so you’ve got to stay on top of the site and buy when on sale. Black Friday used to be good. But they put many on sale after the holidays when they’re looking to move old for new. Next being they are acrylic and last forever Facebook marketplace has some good deals. But again you’ve got to stay on top of the site. Best deals go fast.

Iminit
10-30-2023, 12:28 PM
Lol stand ain’t bad and you could repaint it. Still at 400 or less a good deal. It’s been up for awhile. Guys probably hoping to move it. Thing is he’ll never sell the stand by itself so you’ll probably end up with it all.

Charlyc11
10-30-2023, 12:33 PM
I would repaint and not use the canopy. I am waiting for his reply. But would not use yet since It would replace one of my 75G that has a very nice stand.
It's only 15 min from my house.

I guess we went off the beaten path with this post.

Thanks Chuck. I will have the tank upstairs so looking for something lighter. I also like the clarity though I am aware they scratch easy.

I don't know what he is talking about? I guess self promoting that site.

I really love fish, your video is very cool. In my opinion, it would be better if you removed the background, for example using the depositphots.com (https://depositphotos.com/video-background-remover.html) service. I don’t know why people so often add different backgrounds to the video, because it spoils the very picture of what you want to show the viewer!

Who knows? But it’s been a long time since I’ve been here. Lost all but 3 of those discus as long term ailments from a cross contamination. Didn’t stop me just started over. Most of the fish in the community tank are still with me except the angels. Here’s a new video :).

G’day Frank. Acrylic tank do scratch easier than glass but , unlike glass which scratches permanently, you have the benefit of being able to buff out scratches periodically, which is a reasonably simple and fairly cheap process.
