Hi All,

Getting a new rimless tank made, 60x65x60, and I've just had an email back asking if I'd like black or clear silicone. Though I'm unsure of what would be best?

Any suggestions, reasons for one of the other or even pictures would be welcome. As I don't want to make the wrong choice then live with it till I get my next tank!

Cheers,

Paul

I don't think I have ever seen one with black silicone...

I like black silicone because it doesn't discolor or stain over time.

Blacks been around for awhile now. Even petsmart was selling some with black. I’d google it and see what you think. It’s a looks thing nothing else.

I resealed a tank with black. It looks really nice. I would do it!

If you plan to breed discus I would gently suggest using clear silicone. When fry go freeswimming they search for their parents. In doing so they look for dark colored objects. I’ve had bad experience with fry not attaching well and sticking to black silicone seams. Good luck with the new tank.

I have black silicone on my rimless 75G cube and I really like it. It frames the tank (for the lack of better term) quite nicely. I think you see the black silicone on saltwater setups more than freshwater.

If you want the super super clean look go with the clear. I have clear silicone on my 125G rimless and it does a good job of making the tank dimensions disappear.

personal preference really.
