Hi quick question regarding Formalin for egg fungus prevention.
Is it best to mix in a cup with water and pour it into the tank or just add it directly to the tank with a pipette

It doesn't matter either way. The most important thing is to get the right concentration ( about 1500mg/liter) for the right length of time ( 15 mins./day). If you use too little or too much formalin, you won't be successful.
Why are you using formalin instead of peroxide or methylene blue?

I read on some forums that it was good for preventing egg fungus and that 1 dose was all that was needed.
I was going to use Methylene Blue but read that it was not advisable with TDS below 60
Regarding the formalin do you add it 15 minutes after they have finished laying the eggs

To be applied to fish eggs for 15 minutes.

Oh. I added 1 drop per gallon 15 minutes after they finished laying and the following day I did a water change.
I didn’t know you only leave the formalin in for 15 minutes
Next time I’ll try Methylene Blue
What is the best way to dose with MB
Thank you very much in advance for your help

For chemical treatments, best to follow the label instructions......I usually add MB one hour after the eggs are laid.

Add 1 teaspoon of 2.303% Methylene Blue per 10 gallons of water.

Do you still do daily water changes, or do you wait till they hatch then start the water changes

Update
Added the stated dose of MB and it turned the water a very dark blue, to the point you couldn’t see anything.
It spooked the discus and they went and hide behind the sponge filter.
They totally ignored the eggs.
Waited for about 6 hours and decided to do a 50% water change.
After doing a water change the discus have made an appearance and have started guarding the eggs again.
I suppose half dose is better then no dose.
The reason I’m adding MB is I’m using a cone guard.

When I've used meth blue I have lifted the cone out of the water, dribbled a few drops right on the eggs then put the cone back with the parents.

That might of been better
I think I’m going to do another few water changes to reduce the colour to a pale blue
