SO - I have a big Failure on my 400G and I need a replacement.

I am looking at some standard 310's that are 96" wide x 30" deep x 25" tall

I did find a Used 96 Wide x 24 deep and 36 tall (used)

My Question, is the bigger foot-print better or would the discus like the Height?

Not worried about the extra Volume

In my experience, discus prefer height over area. Just know that tall tanks are more difficult to clean if you're planning for substrates, plants, etc.

thanks, my current setup is 30" deep. I like that depth. 36" would be difficult.

I can get a new 310 thats 25" deep for 2K - the next step up is a 30" deep the same dimensions but the price jumps up to over 5K... Having trouble justifying the price for the extra 5"

My discus are in a deep tank (36). They don't seem to enjoy swimming up and down nearly as much as swimming back and forth. I personally wouldn't spend the 5K

Well thats encouraging, cause I am having trouble convincing my self to spend the extra $3300 for 5 more Inches! lol

I agree with Andy.

Yup, spending 5k on this would be too much.

I am looking into Acrylic tanks - which of course more than doubles the price if not triple or more. I just don't want to do this again. I want this to be my Last Aquarium... I am not 20 anymore and I don't want to keep doing this lol. My 400 was suppose to be my "last" Aquarium but it has failed so here I am again......

old set up was Monsters and Rays. Sold all that Because I was going to Discus. Never got there because I found these tank Issues. It will be a while before I have a tank with water much less fish again.

PS - Unless I find a deal on a used tank, I will probably be ordering a 96x30x30 acrylic tank by the end of the week
