So these guys went free swimming on June 1st. It was a very small hatch of about 35.
We just got back from a weeks vacation and had everyone on straight tap water.
I culled several times today being the last day.

Lovely pair and great size fry for their age. Wishing you continued success with the batch.

Thanks Liz.

They eat well.
Every two hours or less.
It’s fun.
I’ve been out of the hobby for ten years or so.
I don’t have the fish room I used to but now I just need to cull all but the Ones I see as the next generation of breeders.
Have a great day, Matt

the dime is almost as cool as the baby fish. :)

Thank Cliff. I agree for one month old fry, they have really rounded out nice. There were some that were not as nice but they were culled already. I also culled any that were lagging in growth.
Fritz, I like to use silver coins to put in the tank to gauge their growth. And what better to use than the Franklin dime. Lol
I had a Mercury dime in the tank earlier as well. Next will be a American silver eagle, then the 5 ounce coins. Lol.
Have a great da6, Matt

Cool mate. What strain/s are the parent pair? Got some pics of the adults? Post #3 has an image link which won't open for me. .

The dad is a blue diamond and the mom is a reflection deep.
From what I can tell there is a mix of Turks/cobalts and blue diamonds.

Beautiful pair Matt. Could just be light/angle cause I don't see it in post #13, but I love the sea green hues in the 1. What were they sold as?

Hey Daniel.
Yes, the difference is lights on verses ambient light only. My lighting makes the fish look more purple and having an all white background washes out the deep blue color when the lights are on. Check out how different the blue diamond looks on my black background.
The aqua green looking fish is the reflection deep. Check them out with a great description at Golden State discus.
The other is a blue diamond. It is a lower grade blue diamond (from a purest point of view) due to it having the red streaks in its fins. In my opinion a high grade blue diamond should not have any color other than blue. Not that I enjoy the dad any less.

Hi Matt,

Question on tank backgrounds - do you find your fish darkening to match the black background? I switched from black to no background precisely for that reason.

That happen to me I got my Hans Brilliant turquoise home and after a few days the started to turn black. I had black substrate and background painted black. Charged to a blue with white sand and they are back. Still a little stress due to the change but starting to eat and adjust to new environment.

This is before with the Black Background and substrate

This is after I replaced the background and substrate.

It's common for Discus to camouflage to a darker or lighter color, especially in the wild as they have to hide from predators.
