Chicago Discus is now offering a second way to have your discus shipped. You can choose FedEx Priority Overnight to your door as always, or now airport-to-airport with Southwest Cargo. Why would you choose one over the other? There are several considerations.

1. The cost associated with FedEx depends on the size and weight of the package, as well as the zone you live in. FedEx can get very expensive depending on where you live. Southwest Cargo is a flat fee of $65 for most orders, but you have to pick it up from the airport.

2. If you live near an airport served by Southwest Airlines, it may be just as convenient to pick up your discus right from the airport. The package will be held in a secure location for pickup and not carted around on a truck all day. But remember, Southwest does not serve all airports. Check with SWA Cargo to find out which airports they serve.

3. So why choose FedEx? If you have to drive hours to get to the airport, it may well be worth the expense to ship with FedEx. Also if you live in the midwest, it may actually be less expensive to ship with FedEx. Compare the shipping costs in your shopping cart before making a decision.

The Southwest option will soon be up on our website. If you would like to try airport-to-airport, give me a call at 312-622-0055.

This is a great option to provide and personally preferred! Not to mention that you can pick up your fish the same day they're shipped...

Airport to airport is for sure the best way for anyone who lives near an airport that Southwest serves. It's the next best thing to picking out your fish from Chicago Discus and driving them straight home.

Thanks for your comments, Liz and Brian. We didn't offer this option before because it was very inconvenient for me drive to Chicago Midway Airport which is where Southwest flies out of. It could take me 3 hours round trip during rush hour! But starting this fall, they will be also flying out of O'Hare. I live 15 minutes from O'Hare cargo area, so now it makes more sense. Let's see if it works as well as FedEx.

Sounds like a great option to me and something I would consider in the future. I'm only 10 minutes away from Muhammad Ali International Airport and Southwest's Cargo Hub. :D

Very good option, more directly to the customers then going thru the detours. I did ship Delta Dash and was a Known Shipper at one time, the Feds will come out to the hatchery before approval. I don't know if this process is the same with SW.

Best shipping method available. I've gotten fish that went into their bag only 8 hours ago.
