Pea Puffer Fish and Discus

Hi Folks!

After a long time, I now coming back to Discus again and I am super excited. I just ordered 6 4.5 inch discus online and prepping my main tank. I have a 55 gal tank with 5 tetras and 1 pea puffer. Would it be okay to mix my pea puffer with the 6 Discus? If not, I'll return it to the store. Any inputs/suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing this!!! I only have one pea puffer so maybe they’ll get along??? I hope? Gulp… moment I see him nip or chase any of my discus I’m bringing him back to pet store. Lol. I really do like him though… they’re so cute

Yeah…. I’ve heard that they can be nasty. Tiny little thing though with googly eyes.. pretty clumsy too lol

First take your 5 tetras and 1 pea puffer set them up in a smaller tank. Now you can QT your 6 discus in the 55G by themselves until you decide what to do with the rest.

Little Puffers are AWESOME... fun little cartoon character-type of fish... but if you've seen last Ghost Busters (the one with the kids in Oklahoma or something), then they will be like the mini-marshmellow men in the Walmart scene towards the end (...and I somewhat like going against the grain on tankmates but even in a 150 with adult discus, I just wouldn't even put one little 1-inch puffer)
