Hi Discus Keepers,

Can I ask if discus will spawn at least at a pH of 8.1?

The full breeding process isn't so important at the moment, I just need the females to lay eggs because I want to vent sex them.
Side note, I have read a bit that the low pH helps increase the hatch rate.

Thanks!

I have had them spawn in that pH. Low tds, not the same as pH, is usually needed for hatching.

In some cases you can even get fry in that pH. What matters is the kH not the pH.

We are talking about captive-bred right?
My pets are captive bred.

I've had two pair lay, hatch and get wigglers in a ph of 8.4+ and fairly hard water. One pair laid eggs 2-3 times a month in spurts. It was a community tank of Discus and Rummy nose shoal of about 20+
I changed 80% water every day. Good clean water and good foods and they breed like rabbits.

If and only if your kH is low enough. I have a pH of 7.2 and I need to hatch eggs in RO.
