Turn them off. If you leave them on for 24 hrs, you’ll get a major algae outbreak. I wouldn’t leave them on more then 12 hours.

My wilds have always preferred a dimmer tank. My domestics don't seem to care.

Thanks all. I personally turn them off but it seems to me that I read on this forum that they could be left on all the time.

Ok there are 24/7 led lights. They are day to night lights that work like a regular day. Different intensity of light at different times of the day. They run on an internal program. Or they are fully programable that you set to the way you like. So not fully on all day long.

I think you misunderstood the reply. The "light" may be on 24/7, but it changes from light to dark during that cycle. And the green glass looks to be a joke (algae). Many folks leave a "night light" on at night.

Correct. 6-8 hours of light should be enough, as more lighting period would stimulate algea growth.
As Steve said - you still might use a night light (smallest led 1w or less would be enough). It prevents discus to bump their head, as they can’t see a glass.
