Today was a bad back day. Whenever my back says no to anything fun, I lie down on the sofa and watch my Discus.

Earlier I was critiquing the conformation of my 2 older breeding males. I'd always preferred my big guy, but although his brother is not as huge, I find him to be better balanced overall. Judging Discus always involves trade off's.

I'd been watching my younger 2 pairs flirting. The female with the stupid husband starting laying eggs again. The first times she laid, stupid husband followed right behind her eating his potential sons and daughters. The next 3 times he watch his wife with interest, but couldn't figure out his part.

Finally...just before I was about to give up all hope, the my his wife started spawning and after watching and "scratching his head" he started following her up the cone making runs of his own.

The eggs had meth blue dribbled over them and are now in the pitcher. Daddy got less timid as the spawning went on but he is a timid young man.

I'm not expecting anything to come of this spawning. I'm hoping for wigglers, but will accept white eggs. At least this pair has little, by little gotten better and better over time.

It takes forever for the pot to boil if you're watching it and waiting for it.

Hi Liz, sounds like things may work out in time. He may just need to be more mature.

He did, Cliff. Lots of wigglers. The parents haven't recognized their existance yet, though.

Not to great a pic of mom but pretty good at dad. You can see the babies in the pitcher as they wiggle.

I just love the red eyes.

I do to. It is considered the more correct eye color, but there are things that are more important than eye color. The red eye is just icing on the cake.

Very nice pair! so you have success with the pitcher and R/O water in it. Good job!

I do indeed. Cliff told me how to do it. I'd been throwing away a fortune for filters and membranes.

Can you explain how that works? I'm interested.

Get an open handled plastic pitcher (I had to hunt high and low for them). Fill it with 100% RO and put it inside the breeding tank with a bubbler. When the parents spawn, wait between 30 minutes and an hour then put the cone in the pitcher. When little tails start to wiggle start changing their water with the parent's water. Once the wigglers leave the cone and free swim, pour the little ones in the tank with their parents.

The pitcher has to hold a gallon. That's why it was so hard to find. I finally found some on line at a restaurant supply place. They must have thought it strange that I only wanted 3.

I hope they are still doing well in the morning. Do you leave a night light on when you have fry on the parents?

I have 2 night lights on. I'll leave the overhead fluorescents on tonight. I still have babies but fewer this morning
I shook a bunch of them off the sponge filter. I put a white net around it. Still hoping for t best.

Still have babies this morning. More than I thought. Now that they've grown some it not so hard to see them.
