This time I had them shipped. It was cheaper than paying the fines from the Illinois toll scammers they have going on!:mad:

Great looking fish Brian :D

They're too new to see if they're pairing up, but they would be a great mix. There's another Panthera SS as well that's not in the photo's. Eventually, I'll put them all together with my SS's from the contest along with my Panthera Leopard, which is one of the nicest Leopard I've seen. Hopefully I'll get at least one pair out of them.
But, I do have an absolutely gorgeous possible pair of Ruby Red x Meteor from my previous arrivals. I just got them in their own tank and should know if the eggs hatch today. This is the first spawn in RO water with a TDS of 80. Keeping my fingers cross to see if they carry them instead of eating them, lol...
And yes, Josie and Miranda have achieved elite status since their partnership with Robert Lim!!

Beautiful. How big are they?
Jay
They're in the 5.5" - 6" range.
Meteor x Ruby Red first try was a success. About a 98% hatch ratel Let's hope they care for them when they go free swimming...

Super excited to follow your breeding progress of your pairs. The ones above look fantastic (I'm drooling)!
This morning it looks like they're placing them on the sponge filter as they break free of the cone. I'm super excited to see how well they learn this lesson as this is the first time I've screened the eggs off.
I moved the thread here because I'm excited about this spawn and want to continue to document their growth, as long at they don't get eaten. Fingers crossed!
They started free swimming today and many are immediately attaching...

You lucky guy. I'm doing nothing but waiting for my pairs to get in the mood. Do you have any other pairs in breeding tanks, Brian?
There's some interest going on in the QT tank from the new arrivals, and I have a Melon pair tending eggs at the moment. As soon as QT is over I want to put the new spots in with the SS's from the contest growouts and the Panthera Leopard. Hopefully I'll get at least one pair out of there.

You've been here, Brian, so you know my taste in Discus. If you ever get a pair of SS's with a strong blue base I'll be interested in buying a bunch of little ones to grow out.

11 days FS. They're losing interest in the parents and looking more to bbs. Also beginning to take on a discus shape. I'll be removing them soon and give the parents a couple of weeks rest as soon as I find a place to put another tank, lol...

They're in pure tap water.

That group of fry look amazing for 3 weeks old!
Brian- can I get dibs on some?
I don't have room to grow them out so most of these are leaving early and small. These are some excellent parents so I'm sure I'll have more but it'll have to be after I do some work to the house. By then I'll have some idea of how they color up as they grow out. I really wish I had a basement, lol...

So far, I like their growth. I've lost a few before I figured out I was over feeding them. Discus fry are know to eat themselves to death, lol...

Brian
When do you think they would be ready to ship and how much would you be asking
for them?
Jay
These were pretty much spoken for before they even hatched, lol...
I do plan on selling future spawns but I just don't have room to grow out this many to quality at this time. My other pairs were only producing 20 or so at a time. Once I get some remodeling done, I'll have some grow out space and they will be for sale. This will also give me a chance to grow out a few of the ones I'm keeping so I can see if the quality is what I'm hoping for.
I moved them away from their parents and into a 55g. The lights have mostly failed so I can't take a quality video, but they made the transition very well. The parents were getting beaten up pretty bad so I'm sure they are relieved, lol...

A good sign they're happy is when they take to new foods. This is their first cube of Al's FDBW's...

That's what I love to see. You are doing exceptionally well with them. Keep it up!
They're 6 weeks tomorrow and eating great! There are about 6 or 8 I'll be culling soon because they're much smaller than the main core.
They're now on their 2nd cube, but also eating BH, granules and flakes as well. Soon to be off BBS.
I was getting ready to lower TDS for another spawn but the parents were in a rush and spawned in 500TDS water. I didn't think anything would happen, but about 20 hatched.
And, they have a great view across the room. A batch of black and gold ram fry are doing good as well...

Looks like you have over 50% blacks. Take care of that pair.
I'd guess about 70/30 blacks. If I can ever expand my fish room space I'd like to work with them and produce a more fixed black production. But, discus take precedence at this time. I'm parting with these early spawns at a pretty young age and growing out a limited number for myself so I can see if there's any consistency in shape and color. These are the best overall quality spotted discus I've worked with and I'm hopeful their offspring will be even better! I have a remarkable Panthera Leopard I'd like to breed with a Panthera quality Eruption that I have high hopes for as well.
They're at it again. I guess the last spawn of 20 or so wasn't enough to keep their interest so they never really cared for them. I took the last 3 free swimmers and placed them in with the ram fry but I have no idea what happened to them. Later that afternoon, I was able to do a straight 75% RO water change but I forgot to turn off the power filter so I don't know if that affected fertilization or not, but today there are about 40-50 wigglers. About 1/2 the size of their first spawn. They seem pretty active spawners so next time I'll try screening them again and see if the spawn increases.

Black, 70% black is great. Remember that the pitch blacks get blacker as they grow larger. Congratulations on the new wigglers.

Brian, congrats! Better hurry on those renovations.. I think.you will be needing more tanks soon! :)
Tanks I have. Room to put them I have not, lol...
This pair seems to be very prolific. I'd like to get my red pair going again and see if these guys will foster the fry. I had a Santarem pair years ago that fostered anything I put in with them, even if they weren't carrying their own. Pair like that are very rare...

Looks like you have over 50% blacks. Take care of that pair.
Sadly, the female up and died with no warning. The dad is fiercely guarding the fry but I'm probably going to separate them soon because of over crowding. On a good note, another pair of blacks spawned unexpectedly and are caring for their fry as well. I got rid of about 60 from the first spawn so I still have about 120 blacks and golds growing out.
Finally painted, insulated and built a stand for the new 75g, which is their new home. They do like it :)
