Edible plants and Fungi

One of my hobbies is botany, and I really enjoy learning about the various edible wild plants . I decided I would start documenting them here. Obviously please do not eat anything out there that you are not 100% sure is safe. To start this off I have here an edible Mushroom. Mushrooms in the wild range from inedible to edible but yuck, to edible good and edible choice...choice meaning that one is awesome. And of course there are the ones that will mess you up in a bad way, or kill you.

I came across this Dryad’s Saddle (Cerioporus squamosus) the other day in Haddam CT ... unfortunately I could not collect it at the time!

What a beautiful mushroom! I've never seen one down south here. I'm sure that some what y'all have up north is also what we have down here. There's some kind of clover here, I don't know what it's called that I like in salads. It adds a bit of tang.

While not wild I love Nasturtium leaves. They have a sweet but peppery flavor.

I love those too Dave, I grow them each year here and enjoy munching on them.

Me too. I've grown them before. They taste like capers! They don't grow that well here. I think they like it cooler with less humidify.
