Tom,
Heres my "planted" tank from 2006. The swords are potted in Nylon Stockings with an iron tablet and Calcium antacid. The media is Peat moss and garden soil. From what I remember. The tank was sand

and in this one...

you can see the Crinims (?) pot completely covered in a stocking. I had recently removed it from a substrate tank and didn' t repot it yet, Ugly huh?

Forgive the image quality lol. They are old.

No way! Those are some great looking Amazon swords!! Nice crypts too! 136501136502 some of my first discus tank this time around. The discus were Hans.136503what I’m calling a planted tank now. This tank has 2 snail eating clown loaches. So I can’t keep mts. Plants for me grow so much better with mts and shrimp.

Tanks look great! What are you using for lights?

Ok ouse a lot of lights. Funny I think I’m saving money buy buying cheaper. Started with viva-grow lights. Great lights that grew plant fine. Next bought a finnex planted plus than a pair of finnex hlc’s these 3 are very good plant lights. On my community tank that’s the light. When I set up my 125 I got a hygger 957 48” for $75 delivered. Now these are the best lights I use. These lights are fully programable. Great for. Growing plants and just looking at your fish. I now have 5 of these. On the fry tank I’ve got it set with an intensity of 30% for most of the day and for 4 hrs it goes up to 40%. For the price these lights are great. I’ve recomended these to anyone who will listen. Everybody likes them! Only complaint is the power pack does get hot. Gets up to 100 degrees. So nothing like the old fluorescent or incandescent lights. My first one is on its 4th yr on that tank.

Thanks Tom, I will file that away... I bookmarked it on Amazon. I can't remember what kind of light I was using with those tanks I posted .. odds are they were just cheap Florescent shop lights, maybe with a plant grow bulb. somethings grew, some not so much..lol.

How do you deal with the power pack problem?

It’s not a problem. Yes they run hot but no where near hot enough to cause a fire. Fluorescent bulbs run as hot. Incandescent much hotter.
