Kind of funny little experiment. I always knew I had CO2 in my well water. Because of it my tap water runs between 5.5 and 6 pH.. but aging it stabilizes in the mid 7's.

Having recently set up a tank to grow out some potted plants I wanted to get a feel.for how much CO2 that is really.. so I bought one of those glass CO2 drop checkers and placed it in my tank. If the indicator solution is blue.. it means add CO2.. If Green your levels are good for the plants. I have no idea how accurate it is...it was only $12.

So placed in tank and let stabilize a day and it was blue..

Did a 30% water change... and color changed to greenish.

Pretty much explains why my fish prefer small frequent water changes or aged water.

I didnt really expect much in terms of plant response from the types of plants in the tank but theres actually some very minor pearling going on with one of the javaferns.

And alot growth on the other Java ferns.... new plantlets and lots of rhizome growth.

That make a lot of sense, my well water also comes in at around PH 5 and after air and recirculating it jumps to over 7 but no measurable KH. I never checked the CO2
