I really like when I find an overlooked spot to fit another tank. I just happened to find one in my living room with a slight re-organizing. I set up a 29gal tank there with a few potted plants from another tank. .. I will be adding some driftwood. The tank currently only has a starter group of Cherry Shrimp.

Normally I keep Endlers with Cherry shrimp and they do well together. I may go that route again. I'm looking at other options. The idea is cherry shrimp safe.

On the short list.
1)endlers
2)Neon tetras
3)Ember tetra
4)otocinclus
5)Amano shrimp
6) chilli rasbora
7)Celestial Pearl Danios
8)Pygmy Corydoras.. reported shrimp eaters.

Other suggestions for shrimp safe tankmates?

Pygmy corys will eat the shrimplets. Had 6 in my 15 and the population dropped drastically till I removed them.

I say endlers and mystery snails. Mine mystery snails are breeding like crazy. I see two stuck together this morning which will mean yet another clutch above the water level tomorrow. Want a clutch? I can send you one if you like.

Liz that would be great. Thanks.
I took advantage of a Black Friday Sale that Tristans is running.. 30% off live stock .. The main resident will be a group of Phoenix rasbora (Boraras merah). Tristan had a group of wild ones so I decided to try them. Will hopefully breed for me.

In my tank mate search I realized how much I missed having endlers so I bought a few from Tristan as well. Now I am on a search for other reputable endler breeders.

I'll it off to you tomorrow, Al. One clutch of eggs will give you tons of little baby snails. Do you know how to hatch do clutch?

Thanks Liz.. its been a long time but what I used to do was keep the clutch of eggs on a wet paper towel in a plastic tupperware container... covered but vented. The paper towel was put on a small piece of foam and floated in the tupperware container in a little water and the container floated in the tank. I did this way so if I was out for the day the snails could hatch and easily get to the water.

Be happy to hear what you do.

Your way actually sounds better than my way. I put them in a plastic container on a damp paper towel, then covered with a dry paper towel and vented lid, then floated in the tank. I like your foam idea.

Thanks Scott.Good to know. .I almost went with Neons here. I though cardinals might take out the baby shrimp too much.

I have Hillstream loaches and mystery snails in my shrimp tank. The hillstream loaches are cool. I hoped to be able to breed them, but I have yet to see a baby. I've been wondering if the snails might be eating their eggs.

Liz, I will be getting Hillstream loaches for my community tank when I get it set up. I have done a lot of research on the hillstream's and it seeems like they breed pretty easily if you have any rock formations with area's between them so they can hide and lay their eggs.

Al,
Have you decided what you were going to do?

I did Scott. The main resident will be a group of Phoenix rasbora (Boraras merah). Tristans (https://tristanstropicalfish.com/) had a group of wild ones so I decided to try them. Will hopefully breed for me. We held off on shipping them this week because of the cold.. should ship monday.

Also got some endlers and keyholes but these wont go in this tank.

I got some dutch blue Rams from Tristan awhile back and was very impressed.

I ended up getting 20 of the phoenix rasbora which In retrospect was too many for the 29 gal.. Im think 3 pairs of endlers and a group of 8 rasbora with the cherry shrimp is a good number. Theres also 10 bristlenose pleco fry I in their to grow out.

The balance of the rasbora will go in with a group keyhole cichlids coming on the same order... these will be in a 40 breeder forwhile....then move to a 55g or 75 gal.

Everyone arrived safe and alive. Tristan does a very good job packing them up and shipping...

I decided to tank all the Endlers and rasbora together in the 29g at least for QT. The keyholes got the 40 breeder to themselves for now.. theres 8 at around 2 " . I was a little worried that even though they are gentle cichlids the Rasbora might be lunch.

I will post some pics after everyone settles in.

This is my second time buying from Tristan.. very happy both times now.

I have to say the phoenix rasbora are a great fish to keep in a micro tank with endlers and shrimp. They pay zero attention to even the smallest guppies.

The only challenge I have had in this tank was trying to add mystery snail I hatched out from Liz. I have never had an issue with cherry shrimp eating snails of any kind but my cherry shrimp have killed two sets of Mystery snails now I have added... I watched it happen. And these were snails that were almost pea size. I have since tried them in a 10 gal tank and at this size they just dont last with cherry shrimp. Meanwhile I have the mystery snails in with endlers no problem and in with Blacks rams ..no problem. I think I just need to wait until the snails are bigger. I never thought cherry shrimp would bother them. Just plain weird.
