View Full Version : Pressure Gauge gone crazy?

Hi, anyone had this problem? Got my waters right and started to run 200l of DI when I noticed the gauge going mad. Is this a faulty gauge (old) or pump (pump brand new)? Any ideas. Going from 5-9 Bar.139323

What kind of pump is it? It's possible it's just reacting to the pump discharge pressure fluctuation.

Edit to add: I see it says diaphragm pump. I'd guess that this is normal discharge pressure. They work by pushing a volume of water, refilling (pressure drops off) and then pushing out the volume again. In other words, the discharge pressure won't be particularly constant.

Who knows what the construction inside your pump is, but the principle is likely the same. If the gauge wasn't doing this before, but is now that might indicate something is wrong.

Thanks, had an old one apart and it has 3 valves which intern pump the water so yes there is a fluctuation but it has been steady at about 6 Bar for a long time. This is something iv'e never seen before, maybe some thing has broke in the gauge?

Could be something in the gauge or maybe one of the diaphragms (assuming there's two) in the pump is damaged and so it's only outputting one half of the cycle or something? If it was steady before then something clearly changed. Assuming that the gauge is a lot cheaper than the pump, you could try putting a new gauge on and seeing what a new one does.

I've had issues with pressure gagues getting stuck. Sometimes tapping on them corrects the problem. I would normally guess gague first but if it's a new pump maybe it just operates a little different than your old one.

Replaced the old gauge and still have the same problem...

I would be checking the supply line for an obstruction.
Disconnect the supply side and see if it flows ' normal'.
Make sure your shut off valve is on 100%. Move it around since that is where stuff tends to clog IME.

Can't imagine any crap in the line but will take it apart to just test.

Great news I have got the gauge to work. I took the insides of a flow restrictor and put it in the ro tube leading to the gauge and then uses a tap to reduce the flow even more. Reads correct tap pressure 2 Bar and reads with a steady 6 Bar on the exit of the pump, no need for a needle valve. Needed to add a support as the gauge would rotate down, think I made a decent job of it. All is good in the world.
