Hi!

I have a crazy thought:

Can we feed some kind of the foods so that the discus will change the color?

Yes, you can enhance the red in your discus by feeding red colored foods. Hikari makes a red discus pellet and tetra bits are red.

HI Chein: The answer is yes. I've been doing some research on discus diet for a few years. The Asian breeders are very good in using natural products like vegetables to turn the colour of a discus. If you feed them at a certain stage of a discus life and the color will stay. They're not hormone. Just vegetables.
This one is feed with Red Yeen Choi. at 2" and Azoo.

This one came from the same brood. He was fed Red pepper powder and tetrabits.

great pics....Jimmy.
hows that breeding going?
where do you get your azoo?

Hi April: I just pick them up from LFS. The Chinese owner just buys them up from the wholesaler in Toronto. They're not that popular like tetrabits. Right now I only breed on demand. I breed for friends who never have experience of raising fry and willing to except the whole brood. They'll pick them up the first day I separate them from their parents.

Hi! Jimmy:

Thanks for the info. Do you mean to mix the vegetables into the processed food or just feed them the vegetable directly.

Chein:
The vegetables are part of the ingredients of the beef heart mix. First you boil the vegetables and chop it into pieces before mixing. HTH

I was talking to Cary the other night and he told me that feeding for red coloration will cause yellow discus to turn orange. (I hope I got that right). This was news to me so I thought I'd pass that along for anyone else that didn't know this.

Yup
I thought that everbody new that pigment astaxantine (active stuff in natrurose) turns good looking lemon like discus into pale pidgeon blood.
thanks for bringing it up.
