Hello everyone at Simply discus, I was just wondering what is the biggest size tank you guys and gals have. My biggest used to be a 240 long until I got a steal on a 325. Only paid 700 bucks for it and its the thickness as bulleproof plastic, LOL. I only have 14 discus in the tank as of now, but I want to put 40 in there, what do you think, too much?

Wow, that must be something. I have never had more than a 125. I would say 40 Discus would be ok. Can you post a picture of the tank? Frank

Yeah....post a pic!!! I'd love to see 40 adult discus swimming around with that much room!

My biggest tanks are 75g. I can't carry or fit anything heavier/bigger into my basement!! :-\

WOW!!!! That is a huge tank..... I am with everyone else - post a picture!!!! I think 40 would be fine.... JMO

My biggest tank is a 90g, which is sitting empty in the garage - so my next biggest tank with fish would be a 75g.

My biggest is 60g but I want much bigger. I can't do that now as I'm limited to space but my next place will have plenty of room for bigger tanks in it.

175-gallon over a 50-gallon over flow tank. Since they are both planted I figure that I have a water volume of about 175 gallons. The upper tank is made of oak veneer plywood. I currently have nine "close to adult" discus in it.

225 with 7 adults, with 10 more of cary's soon to be adults going in around feb. Most of the adults in are Wattleys. Only thing is they are pairing up like mad getting wrigglers and really being agressive. I wish they would stop pairng up so much. In fact I have a snakeskin who lays eggs every 7 days for the past 2 months and is getting too skinny for my liking. She never interested in food, only her eggs. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Heh. My biggest is a 55. I will one day actually buy a show tank, but I've always been concerned with maxing water changes and it's been easier for me to do that with smaller sizes!

I'm actually planning a kiddie pool in the basement - so that will be the biggest I've done, for sure!

wow, a 325 huh, whats the dimensions on that bad boy, i see it's acrylic did you make it yourself or buy it? how thick is the acrylic?

as for me, my biggest now is a 190. i also have a 55, two 30's, a 23 cube, 15 high, a 10 and a 5.

picking up another cube from my sis at christmas, 23 or 30 not sure. planning to buy a 65 very soon with a 48x18 base. i gonna build a stand for the 65 and two cubes on top. i may trade my 30 hex with the neighbor for another 55 as well.

always looking for more tanks as i setup my fishroom! i'd love to get some 200+ downstairs but unless its acrylic i don't see carrying it down those steps! that 190 is pretty heavy.

11-29-2002, 02:01 PM
That's 300 plus gallons? I can't get a real perspective on size. what are the dimensions? My 200 looks bigger than that. Not trying to be a butt, but it just doesn't look that big.

I have ten 6x2x2ft all glass tanks may be some day all tanks have discus fry :D

citizenal
11-29-2002, 05:46 PM
The tank is 1 1/4 inch thick. The dimensions are 45 tall by 30 wide by 60 long. The guy who sold it to me said its the same thickness as bullet proof acrylic, but I think thats poly carbonate. I got the tank for 700 bux with a metal stand, though I built a wood stand.

citizenal
11-29-2002, 05:47 PM
BTW the tank weighs over 600 pounds, so you would need over 5 people to carry the thing!

11-29-2002, 06:45 PM
yep..350 gallons..I think the height was throwing me off on the visual.
Thats some thick acrylic. Some of the displays at the Tennessee aquarium don't seem to have acrylic that thick.....
I'd cut that boy in half top/bottom, and put a new bottom in the top half and have two great discus tanks. And I could reach the bottom.

citizenal
11-29-2002, 09:54 PM
IF I knew how to cut it in half I would do the same thing. I think I am gonna buy a 35 tall by 72 long by 30 wide tank. I think it comes out to 300 or so.. that would be a much more workable tank seeing as I have a 4 feet long gravel siphon to clean the tank:).
