I don't think Cary meant in the dark?
I think what he meant was no hood light.
In my breeding area I have dim room lighting on 14 hours a day then a very dim night light on.
The aquarium hood light is just way to bright and not only bothers the parents but when the fry become freeswiming disorientates them.
In other words normal room light is plenty with a small room night light.

A lot of this has to do with cheap breeders (the hobbyist, not the fish). ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
