i treated my adults for tapeworms with prazi this morning at 10:00 but no signs yet. how long does it usually take for them to start passing? my popcorn is getting cold and my favorite beverage is getting warm waiting for the show.

Denny,
I have seen it as quick as 8 hours and as long as 24 and longer.

Useing Disco-worm it took 4 days. At one point 3 came out at the same time. I dont know if thats common so I added Epsom salt at 1 TBS per 10 gall to ease things along :).
Prazi seems to be the med of choice but Disco-worm is much cheaper and easier for me to get. Judging by the other posts Prazi might work quicker. One fish had 5 long worms so there may have been blockage. HTH Rich

Denny...

If I remember correctly it took less than 24 hours for the Prazi to kick in. Just keep an eye out for that sudden "freak out" stage. My breeders went nuts over it. I would hear this thump thump, and the wild female was trying to knock herself silly on the sides of the tank.

Bad thing is she hasn't spawned since :( , but no more worms... :)

Crack another beer and get some chips and salsa........ :P

bob

i knew it was time when i had a fish swimming about with a tapeworm hanging out his butt. :o

31 hrs and still no action. i gave a big dose of frozen bloodworms to try to help with the cleanout. if no luck by morning i will do a w/c and treat again tomorrow night

I treat all my Discus every 6 months for worms. Do it this way and feel safe that your Discus are healthly. Don't wait until there is a problem, it may be to late for them then.

Most of mine get them coming out at almost exactly 12 hours. and yes....if their loaded it can be great fun . ive seen some with so many it looked like macrame' coming out. :o
usually this was on young ones i got . never see them really in the ones ive done when young and my older ones again. but i do it once a year or so to make sure.
ritchie..the prazzi is not costly if you get it from barry .

George,

Do you treat every 6 months with Prazi or do you use different drugs?

And can some one post again the name of the place that you all get the prazi?

I would make sure you siphon out the worms right after thet are dropped from your fish. I've heard that some fish will actully eat them.
I haven't actully seen this because theyv'e always got siphoned off right away.

hi al

i have been doing this, although in the tapeworm thread by al the prazi causes catastrophic damage to the tapeworms causing them to die. i am assuming that the reason they pass is that as they die, they detach from the intestine and are evacuated.

there is probably more i am missing

April, Thanks for the lead on the Prazi. The price sounds very reasonable. Rich

Denny,

Thanks for the update. It looks like your fish will be clean in no time. That prazi is a very effective med.

Spaghetti! Now you've gone and ruined Julz for pasta forever!
