Aprils one week fry

here are my baby manas. at one week free swimming almost. short a day.
This is dad leaving the kids at daycare. they graze on bbs and algae..........and he takes a break. but oversees things.
rather cute when he calls them back. they go running back .

Heres mom.........who deserted her family.........and is spending time at a resort with a bunch of singles. she has her eye on other males.........didnt take her long to start bowing to 2 other males. a brilliant and a wild green. little does she know shes being sent back to her hubby as soon as the kids are gone.

looking good april..1 question why is the cone still there? I suggest u remove the cone as fries has a habit of sticking to cone and not on their parents body when there's 1. Good luck.

Sly...they stay on dad 98 percent of the time. but he shakes them off and they stay there. and they are eating algae on it. and ..ileft it cause mom was gone so i wasnt worried about them relaying and eating the kids. she already ate some...during the custody battle.

heres the fish at my grooming salon for Liz. this is where all the pairs are and my 100 gallon tank. i get to play fishie while i work.
oh,,,,,the famous chicken cone is there. that female is on a break. no hubby. he was borrowed. lol.

all the red ones are my santarem x alencers and san marahs from mike. the one at the top right is mom mana. im hoping one of my manas get togeather with a santarem one day..as the mana is also an alencer cross. should get super nice red babies!!

Are there breeders that will ship discus to South Africa?

Hi LOret and welcome. not sure if we have anyone from south africa. theres a section you can try or post in general. i checked through here and found none. but surely there must be more discus hobbyists in south africa. http://forum.simplydiscus.com//index.php?board=18;action=messageindex
glad you found us. your fish should start changing soon. you will notice them getting more territorial and more pushing each other around etc. and their shape will change and colours get more intense. this is the old teenage phase. how many do you have?
well ask questions and read lots . it will help alot. and hope you find a breeder.

I too have a "Dead Beat Mom".. Heck during the whole fanning process, she just sat and watched Dad tend to the eggs. When they went into free swimming she did help gather them, only to spit them onto Dads back.. (Well, I guess I'm lucky she didn't eat them) Poor Dad will do quick circles around her to force her to give him a break, but she just circles back around him, to loose the kids. I think he should start charging her "child support". What is with them wild females anyway.? :-\

Don't get too excited. these little boys and girls are only one week old. they might decide they cant deal with the big world and pack it in. LOL.
I have plenty of empty tanks. and actually hoping to keep them empty. lol

Thanks guys...not out of the woods yet...but so far so good. they have huge fat pink tummies now..and go crazy over the bbs. even the smaller ones have nice pink tummies.
its gonna be fun.....as now my car is dead..and i have to bus back and forth even on my days off to feed them. so...will be gone long hours. today i was gone 12 hours.and yesterday 14 hours. so if im not here.....thats where i am. talking to my babies. but im loving it. might bring my sleeping bag yet. between every dog in vancouver being groomed..this next week and caring for my babies...mays well.
Mike i had to stick with it..as i could not imagine my life without at least a fwe discus. and this is what makes it so exciting. even my boss who said that fish keeping was the stupidest hobby on the face of this earth...is hooked. she keeps going back there to watch. and my coworker is having a hard time doing her work. lol.

I can't stop looking at your discus. They are beautiful. I've got 9 in my 300 litre tank. 3 royal blues, 3 marlboro & 3 PB. I've lost 1 blue and 1 marlboro in the beginning.(did'nt know about all the W/C and adding salt :bomb:) :furious: I had to learn about W/C the hard way. Now I've got ;D fishies.

Here's mine tonight at two weeks eating whole cbw (I'm still feeding bbs too).

Look at the difference in color. Mine are almost clear with black noses, foreheads and stomachs. Barless except for the tail - all must be pigeons. Yours look chocolate brown with bars on eyes and body. Mine don't eat as much as yours - or at least I've not seen as full of tummys as yours have.

heh...julz yours look great also.
mine...have had to be single parents. hope to get them working togeather next time.
Aunty Mana has wigglers now..and a ton of them . but she too is alone to raise them. the male beat her up and wouldnt let her near her eggs. so he got sent away. she had marks on her...didnt want him to hurt her. so shes on her own. and her first kids to raise. so we';ll see.
Carol. i have 3 2 liter bottles and have 1 tsp. of bseggs.in each bottle. i feed at 2 hour intervals..
what i do is siphon into a net ...then feed the fry. then add the water back to the bottle..and in 2 hours siphon again and get more bbs.
then the next bottle..so i do every two hours. and three bottles. till i leave work at 630 i give them the last big feed.then their with dad till morning then start again.

So Pril does that mean Aunty's will be up for adoption then?

Julz..Aunty Manas fry will be up for adoption....if...she looks after them...and if i look after them...and after i grow them large enough that i know for sure im not gonna send anyone rawlings...or runts or culls. after ive been told that they are good enough to sell. i know the great family traits are there..but i could mess them up. im not done yet. ....
