Set up my plant tank 3 months ago

Got the first pair of discus in my life 1.5 months ago

The male got Hexamita and is still in the hospital tank (he's recovering well)

It's so exciting (to me anyway) to see how the female cleans the eggs by blowing water towards them.

Well, wait until they reunite again. I know the hatch rate is very low but it is still exciting ...

h317:Good pic. That's eggs all right. You can clearly see the tube of the female. What's the parameters in your planted tank. PH and conductivity?

I have a pH controller set at 6.7-6.9. Conductivity? I heard of the term but never tried to understand it (I am brushing as I type this :-[) as I never imagined my discus would spawn in the show tank. My initial goal is to keep my discus healthy.

Well, got to read more on the forum and get ready when the male gets back into the show tank.

h317: Discus bug is very contagious, it's worse than the Norwalk virus is going around in all hospitals. It's amazing she's not only survive under so many little tropical fish around her but also spawn in there. Discus is so unpredictable. I would never even dare to try it without lossing a fish. Those Turquoise is a very tough fish. The new strains of to day will never survive under these conditon for more than a week. Good work.

I can see your Albino Bristle nose cleaning the plant. They really grew fast. If you can try to put your heater horizontally. She'll spawn on any vertical object. It doesn't matter anyway. The eggs will not never have a chance in a planted tank with so many tank mates.

Thanks for the compliment. I am still trying to clean up the left hand side (one Echinodorus Red Flame too many). Also, I need to trim those evasive Echinodorus Tenellus. I really like the right hand side.

As I said before, as long as they are healthy, I am happy. I would like to start another bare bottom tank for discus. Maybe by then I will seriously try to breed them.

Is your female really dark or is it just the picture that causes that? I sure hope she's healthy! She must not be too sick if she's layin'

It's the camera (I wish :-\). It was around the lights out time (one of the light, the back one, was off) when I took the picture. She eats a lot and explores a lot around the tank. She could not be spawning when she was sick, couln't she?

Discus usualy go dark when spawningor just after. I have a red turq that went almost black after spawning. Just his head stayed the same colour.

Jimmy are you kidding about this? A lot of us keep other fish in their planed tank just like that and not only do they survive more than a week, they remain very healthy. Just keep everything steady and clean and they are very happy.

Jimmy knows the story. I had problem with the female since day 1. She has not eaten for about 2 weeks, during which she had white feces. The male ate a lot during that time. Then the situation reversed completely ... the male stopped eating while the female picked up food like a pig. Even worse, the male developed hexamite and that's why he is in the hospital tank.

BTW, the female spawned again exactly one week after the 1st one. I was lucky to be present and watch her act:
