Hi
A few months ago there was a thread about fish immunology that overflowed into a disscusion about "what type of antibodies fish can produce"
I said that i saw that they can make IGM and IgA.
everybody else said that only IGM. When I looked it up the old text book I used said only IGM. I stood corrected.

Yesterday I was in the library and found 3 good papers supporting the fact that fish can make diffrent allotypes of antibodies.

the next papers.
1) Willson et al PNAS '97 vol 94 4593- 97
2)Hordvik et al. scandinavian jour of immunology, Vol 50 202-210.
3)Stenvik, Jourgensen, Immunogenetics 2000, vol 51 452-61.

I am pleased that i recalled correctly the first time. :D

what do you think fellows?
(can I be a moderator now ??? lol)

Hi Cobalt!

In the previous tread you mentioned (http://forum.simplydiscus.com//index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=932), I noted that new evidence support that fish can produce IgD.

By the way, Dr. Hordvik is one of my supervisors.

Yes, very small.

In fact, Stenvik and Jorgensen are also Norwegians, but they are not at the same university as me. They work on IgD from cod, and my supervisor has worked with the same antibody from salmon and halibut.

But IgA, IgE and IgG have never been detected in any bony fish, and probably never will.
