Hi

I have recently got some 3month old discus , one of them has white faeces, so i would like to treat with metro and for worms with panacur.
What one of these meds should i treat with first.

Hi ,
At temps of 92F (which is a good treatment temp , or up to 94F), the metro breaks down after 8 hours, so I redose every 8 hours for 3 days.
Yes 50% wc once per day.

extra airstone wouldn't hurt either ;)

Ardan,
I didn't know that it broke down so fast at temps like that. I always wondered why people added it so much. Thanks for sharing.

I just want to add. My dog was recently on metro for a stomach problem. He was prescribed one pill every 8 hours for 5 days. He's now fine.

Thanks for the info guys.

I do not have much metro left to dose the hole tank unless i spend a fortune to get more so i am thinking that metro in the food would be the way to go. What do you people think of metro in food.

Hi,
Metro in the food is good. I believe a combination in the food and in the water is best. (it gets absorbed through the gills).

It is relatively cheap and in large quantities here http://www.4fishstuff.com/index.htm

Hi,
I use Metro in the water at 400 to 500 mg/10 gal
add every 8 hrs
for 3 days
temp 92 to94F for 10 days

at the same time, I have sprinkled a small amount of metro on frozen beefheart and fed it every day for a week

I have also used flakes called "Tetra Medicated Fish food" (flakes contain Metro)

I have also soaked blackworms in Metro solution and fed, = 250mg Metro per 1 cup water, soak live blackworms for 4 hours, feed worms

IMO all of the above has helped when my fish have had suspected hex(ie white feces, not segmented)

I believe the recommended dose is 250mg metro to 100grams food.

Hi all

I have just got more metro and about to start treatment , i just want to make sure if this high dose of metro in water and food is ok for young discus?

One other question , normal coloured faces that seem to have a thread holding it to another lump of feces , is this normal or a sign of hex?

Thanks

Dark colored feces with strings is normal. Dosage is OK for juvenile discus.

Hi Carol

Your help over the past has been of great help. I can now say the hex has stopped and healed, all those parasites in my tank have been wiped out , my fish and tanks are looking really good now.
They still get an irritation that makes them dart and twitch occasionly ???

Just need to clean up my wee fish now, they are still growing at a fast rate despite the long white strings in the feces

They have done a days metro treatment so far , fish still seem happy.

Good Troy! I'm glad you're getting everything under control. It is so hard to know when to treat and when to wait.
