Hello,

I have about 6 discus at my girls house. They are in a 45 g High.
They seem to be wasting away. I had angels in there with them from the beginning but I finally convinced my girl to let me take them out about two months ago when I noticed that the Discus were getting very stressed out by the angels and their pairing behavior. It did take me a long time to convince my girl to let me remove the Angels, about a month after I took out the Angels the Discus did not improve and they seemed to remain huddled in one corner of the tank all the time and they would not eat their food. At that time I was feeding frozen bloodworms and Flakes. I am know feeding CBW exclusively and they are now eating good and not hiding any more. They come out to me and beg for food. The thing is that most of them still look like they are wasting away and they are getting that razor-back look.

filtration: AC 500
10gl home made trickle wet dry with bio-balls
temp: 86

ammonia:0

Nitrite: 0

PH: 7.6

Water changes: Once or twice a week. Hard to do more, it is not in my house.

Should I move them to a quarantine tank an medicate and what treatment would you suggest??
I do have four corys in there with them.

Thank you in advance, :( :-\ :-[ ???

I wonder if they may have capilliaria? Have you ever wormed them?

Hi Efren,
Prazi is a great De-wormer for tapeworms, and may works for other internal worms if added to the food and feed for multiple days, but it doesn't kill eggs and Eggs are the way Capillaria spread. To deworm and get rid of most kinds of worms you need to feed a medicated laced with something Flubendazole, or fenbendazole.

You can buy flubendazole at...http://www.ftffa.com/

or fenbendazole is sold by vets under the trade name panacur....see for some more info...

Just wanted to add that if they are eating as you see, and they still are getting progressively thinner, then you can almost be certain of a parasitic infestation. Deworming is the only way to tgurn them around.
Also, one of the benefits of more frequent water changes/bottom vacuuming, is removing some of the eggs/worms so that reinfection is reduced somewhat.
Cheers, Francisco
