Hi, this is a sore that my gold has on its side. There is a small thread-like thing hanging out. Since taking this pic, the fish now has about 5 of the threadlike projections hanging out of its side. The fish is very itchy and scratches continuously. I've tried formalin, blue, prazi, neomyacin. The fish has clamped gills, and is very itchy.

Hi Cary, it's swollen, it's a LUMP. If it was part of the pattern, would it be swollen?

I am not saying this is it, but it sounds like "anchor worm"
or/and "fish lice." Anchor worms looks like threads waving from a swore or red area on the fish. Fish lice look like small brown dots on fish. Possible treatment - "WARDLEY Rx Parasite Control."
Again not possitive but that sounds like what it may be. HTH
Sorry Barb,
I was only saying what it looked like to all of us from the pic. >:(

Hi Barb,
Hows it Going? it must be hard to choose what meds to use
after talking with so MANY! But I understand how it is.
I just wanted to say If you Did'ent use the blue + copper and tryed something else. Please do not use it now! Or after other Meds.
Copper + High dose's of blue are only for stronger Discus
at first sight of problems. IMO your Discus will be much to weak after other treatments And copper would only weaken them more even kill them.
I wish You the Best!

Hey Barb,
Sowie to hear about the problem you are currently experiencing. How are they doing? Are they still eating?
If they stay like this for too long, it will stunt them and I hate for that to happen. So I wish you all the best in finding a cure soon.
Take care Barb and all the best to ya.
Regard,
Chi.
Barb, Besides the cautions by Cary, Copper Sulfate should only be attempted in in water that has more than 10 degrees German Hardness as it is very toxic in soft water. Hope you get a handle on this problem-- Joe

HELLO BOOKWORMS! ;)
I HAVE READ THAT ALSO. BUT IME I USED IT AT DOUBLE DOSE FOR 6 DAYS AT 6GH 6KH WITH BLUE. WITH OUT ANY DEATHS.
THE BAD THING I DID NOTICE WAS THE DISCUS DID NOT WANT TO EAT AFTER TREATMENT FOR ABOUT A WEEK.
WORKED LIKE A CHARM! ;D
CARY GLD!
P.S And it was'ent even copper safe which is better then pure form.
Mine was pure copper sulphate that I bought from home depot under the brand name tree root killer for drains. LOL!
