View Full Version : whats the scoop on using garlic
On some posts I see people mix garlic into their beefheart mix. Does it really help with disease prevention or is it an old wise tale? What results have you seen with your fish if you use it. What kind of garlic do you use, gnc capsules and such or just a ground up cloves mix in the food?
Thanks

Good question. I use it becuase I was told it has good anti tape worm properties. Diskus Brief magazine had an article on it and many German keepers who use beefheart primarily use it to control tape worms infestation. I have never needed to deworm my fish and when I have, there is no evidence of worms.
I use crushed clove garlic, fresh type. It makes the beefheart smell bearable! (that's if you like garlic as much as I do)

Drew It is antiparasitic and the fish like it! Ground up --pureed fresh peeled cloves ;) Joe

the active chemical in garlic is called allycin.
look it up on the net!
It enhances macrophage activity and inhibits bactirial activity.
