I bought the Silverflake pair Mike Heppner had on AquaBid. They actually do have a silvery/blue overlay from, I'm told, a blue diamond in the mix. The have the typical white eye of the snowflake.

Jeff Doty picked them up and brought them down to me on Monday. They arrived in good health, nice and fat, bright eyes and excellent fins.

Ok carol, between all those great fish you have and the babies you must have a full time job around your house. They look great. Is that a male and female?

Carol_Roberts
01-25-2003, 02:20 AM
I was surprised at how big the male is - with a very broad forehead.

Nice thick fish. I bet you can make some really nice crosses with those fish if you decide to split them up later on. Love the forehead on the female also nice and round.

Yes, it a male and female. Mike told me they have had wigglers. the female is on the bottom in this picture.

Mike Heppner was nice to talk to on the phone and threw in a couple juvenile PB's as he heard I like pigeons.

They've been in my kitchen tank 4 days and have settled in nicely. They were eating CBW the next day. I'm very happy with them and hope they get busy raising a family soon.

cool Carol.... 8) i heard you got some.....
lol.
well...i ordered 6 blue checkers. 3.5 inch. and high fin. they came in excellent shape. still toasty warm...and lively as ever. and ate right away . and are still very lively. i took pics.but havent developed the film yet.
and yeah....plain old blue turqs. lol. no fancy dancy colours for me..but i wanted blue turqs. so now im happy. oh..and got two little leopards thrown in.
those fish of yours look very nice carol. let me know when you have fry.

Thanks April. I heard you were getting the checkers too, lol. It may be a big world, but we are a small community.

The pair have to stay in the kitchen for the next month in quarantine. I have a flower pot in there with them, but I'm thinking the kitchen might be a tad busy for them to raise babies.

nah..whatever they get used to . why....all my discus have to put up with dogs and customers all walking by every few minutes. they get to learn all their breeds while i groom them. lol. they must wonder. and they are all very calm fish. dont sit and stare at strangers..as they see tons. i think they think their viewing humans and dogs..not us viewing them. think they sit and think......that one ought to be culled... lol.
mine have fry..and eggs there..and get alot of stuff going on. guess just see how it goes.

Is it just me or do snowflakes based fish always have the silver/white eyes?

I got a few myself (snowflakeXbd, snowflakeXmarboro-red) and both of them have the white eyes. Mine are of course not nearly as big as Carols :) I think they might measure in at about 2" maybe 2.5 if I look at them right.

Peace,
Roger

Beautiful fish...absolutely Beautiful :)

Roger,

One of the traits that the snowflake is bred for is the white eyes. They are derived from brown-based fish. Pigeon-based whites will have red eyes characteristic of most pigeons...

That pair is just absolutely stunning Carol.

I wish you all the best with them and may they give you lots and lots of healthy babies.

BTW, how big are the pair? I wonder if discus normally looks bigger in pictures than life ;D

I got a pair of Cobalt and they are about 4" now and in pics they look a lot bigger.

Thanx.

Cheers,

Chi.
