I was thinking of starting a "Discus Club" here in Chicago, or at least get the ball rolling. I just like to see who out there, and who'd be interested. Peace and Love-

Steve,
Some of us are thinking of just that. I spoke to Don_Lee about a potential meeting place just the other night. Good thread! Let's hear who's interested!!

Count me in also! I am definitely interested! Where do you folks all live? I'm in Evanston....I tend to read rather than post, since I'm fairly new to discus (< 1 year) but I've been reading this board since it got going and would like to connect!

(Hey Don, did you get the jokes I sent you today? hee hee)

Okay...looks like we have some interest in this thing. Next question...what's the best way to go about this? Should I start a mailing list for just "Chicago Discus Nuts," in which we can all discuss when, where, and how? I think the first stop would have to be Jeff's Discus. Looks like a great place. Lemme know what you guys think.

I have talked with Jeff at his Discus shop, and he is all for a Discus meeting by his place, as long as it is not a critique of his place, or fish, but just a place where us Discus nuts can get together and shoot the breeze, maybe buy a few fish, or some blackworms. I hope this works out. Bill

How about some Saturday afternoon at Jeff's. Bill, could you call him and set it up? Thanks! ;D

RandalB
02-05-2003, 04:34 PM
I don't know about Saturday, Jeff's is always crazy busy on Saturday. Maybe we can ask Jeff if he would make a special appointment for a group on Sunday when He's not normally open.

Definately a good idea for a place to see some great discus.

I think going down on a Sunday sounds like a better idea also, if possible.

Okay...so Jeff's on a Sunday it is. (if it's okay with him to meet there, maybe we can all help with the water changes! ;) ) Umm...when the meeting takes place, I'll get everyone's input on how we can make an actual discus "club" out of the people there. I could set up a website for it. We can discuss where exactly we'd like things to go. I'm thinking an all Discus version of the GCCA. Maybe not that big...but you get the idea. Just think...sponsored trips to Great Lake Discus on buses...ah yes...the possibilities are endless. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Here we go all!

I just got off the phone with Jeff (Jeff's Discus). He says it is a tenative go for Sunday February 16th at 1200. Jeff says he will supply a light snack and some sodas to get the ball rolling.

I will be there for an hour or so (Gotta work that day! :'() If anyone wants to talk water and I'll have a door prize or two to give away. ;D

Let's all head on out and talk Discus.

RandalB

PS: Jeff very kindly offered to host this event so please be polite and let him know how greatful we are. This is not a critique session for his store!

Whoops! Almost forgot!

Jeff mentioned that He normally gets a California Blackworm Delivery on Friday. If anyone is interested in a group order of blackworms and Worm keepers E-mail Jeff with the quantity you are interested in. This way you can pick them up while you are there. We can definately save some $$ on the keepers with a group order.

Jeff's E-mail is: jfweisgerber@attbi.com

Let him know if you want high quality Blackworms for your fishies!

There is an aquatic plant club called CAGA in the Chicago and burbs area; a few members in the group are discus nuts. OK if I let these folks know and invite them to join us?

Hey Jeff

If you go through with this meeting next week let me know
how many people you think are going to show up. I'd be willing to send some Blackworms and Keepers at N/C that you can hand out.
I know you order every week, but I'll throw in extras.

To everyone who plans on attending let me know so that I can plan on the amount to send.

First I'm new to Discus, just got my first batch last year. I hope to find Jeff's next Sunday.

I would also be interesed in CAGA as most of my tanks are very heavily planted, sometimes I think fish are secondary plants are number one in my setups.

Just as an FYI there is also GCCA, Greater Chicaho Cichlids, They meet Sunday in Rolling Meadows.

Please include my name in any mailings for any of these in the Chicago area.

Woo Hoo! Looks like I got some plans at Sunday Feb. 16th. I have a show with my band the 15th in Island Lake at a place called Sideouts...if anyone would like to see the best party band in the area! I am looking forward to meeting you all, and building some friends to buy, share, sell, and talk Discus with. Life is good. Life is good.

The meeting went great! Great to mill around and meet everyone, Jeff's fish are outstanding, and I was a happy recipient of your worm keeper and blackworms...I've never fed live food to my discus before but Cary talked me into it....my guys went completely NUTS for them and I am a convert. It was really generous of you to send all the goodies---thank you!

I'm on the south side in Sauk Village right on the border of Dyer In. I'd love to be involved w/ anything you guys are planning for the future! :bounce: :bounce2:

Gawd sorry I missed these writings earlier - please count me in too if you meet again - especially at Jeff's place.
My Blacktail Blue Diamond, Red Panda, Super Red Marlboro all from him - need more monies though...hmmm but would LOVE to meet some of you and of course would have to bring home a couple more Discus.
