phosphoric acid

after mixing r/o & tap water ph is 7.5, can I add phosphoric acid to bring it down to 6.8, what will happen after adding the acid?

Yes you can, but watch the hardness.

It might work better if you go with pure RO, instead of mixing it with tap water. It wont take much acid to bring the pH down with just using RO. You will need to add something back to the water to put some minerals back in. RO Right or something like that.. This is assuming that you have moderaltely hard water to :)

If you can, post what your tap water parameters are like, that will help everyone when they try and work out advice for you.

If mixing with pure RO it is possible for it to crash 1-3 days later so also keep an eye on the PH several days after adding acid. ;)

Phosphoric acid has phosphates. The most common problem with using it is an increase of algae.

Using acid with pure R/O water will raise the conductivity and reduce the buffering capacity--thereby it would crash quickly. I do not use any acid at all. if using something to regenerate the R/O--then the best thing to do is get a "recipe " so as to not need acid at all. The yoyo effect when using acid then buffers makes no sense to me and is self-defeating. Joe :(
