I wonder why you choose Aqua Clear filter for discus? and breeding?
I've seen that many discus keepers and breeders in simplydiscus are using AC? is there any specific reason?
Thanks.

I use ac 500,
my reasons:
1: very good flow rate
2: very easy to clean
3: can hold 2 sponges one on top of the other:
when the bottom one gets old and unable to clean , I switch the top one to the bottom and add a new sponge on top, that way I always have a good bio load.
4: can use top sponge to establish a new tank.
5: compared to other filter very inexpense if you purchase them from mail order cost around $33 (us).

I'm in australia so they are by no means cheap, but
I use them because they are easy to maintain,i can put 2 -3 sponges in them and they dont move the water too much to upset my fish.

Most of the other types of hang-on filters use those expensive sponge/carbon cartridges.

Sponges and filter are easy to clean.
Sponges and filter are sturdy and last a long time.

ah Ic.. I thought there was unwritten rule that you have to use AC w/ discus...lol
btw I just bought a whisper power filter1 for my 15 gallon discus tank 10-30gal around 145gph.
It was on sale for 18 bucks from $29.00! it is a older model and got a clear plastic body w/ flow rate control and a combination of high quality floss for mechanical filtration and sponge media for biological filtration, ...very nice indeed and cheap too! lol

I didn't use the carbon since it will take away the fish slime coat, the new model isn't much different w/ the old one, only it has longer intake tube and got a solid black finish on it, I don't like it..I can't see the inside of the filter, who know if something clogging the filter and it is your fish!

I use Emperor 400s, and also Penguin 330s. I have used A Cs also. They are both great filters. I get the baskets that go inside the filters and just put the blue bonded filter pad, cut to fit in there and it keeps my tank nice and sparkly. The bio wheel does great for the biological along with my ATI sponge V. I just looked on Big Als website Cdn $ 74.99 for the 500 AC. Just my .02 :D :D :D Les

Hahahaha, sorry, I have no interest in buying any A/C's. I have a box full of them... some still brand new.
I was just commenting on the new 2003 price for them. $100 buck. outragious!!!! Just a few years ago they were $49.95 cdn.
Well, some one has to pay for the Hagen's private islands.

The AC is a work horse and one of the quietest filters around. I have several and will continue to use them.

Thanks for the offer, but I keep them handy for hospital tanks and local friends.
Never know when I suddenly need an extra filter!!!!
