hello everyone,

I'm wondering what I should do for my discus,
about 2 weeks ago they started acting very skitish.... I think I figured out why,
(the KH in my tap went from ~4dKH to ~0dKH so the PH went from 7 to about 6.5)
during all of that, what I thought was a pair had spawn fro the first time!
(setup= BB 33gallon, 4 x 5" discus)

After the spawn, I set up a 20 gallon BB tank to move the other 2 discus into, thought I would try my hand at breeding!

Since sunday all the fish are in there new homes with there water parameters close to normal
(ph 7.0, dKH 3, dGH 3, temp 84F, NH3/4=0, NO2=0, NO3=5)

The 2 fish which were moved into there new home (20G) don't seem to be very happy, not swimming, just sit in 1 spot, not eating much!

? What should I do to get theme to settle in better? It's been 4 days!

Thanks for your help :)

Hi E K I M,

I would slowly raise the temp to 88F or 90Ff I would also give them 1 tbs of salt per 10 gals.

Thanks Cary Gld,

How long should I keep the temp up, and be adding salt,
until they show improvement?

What does raising the temp that high do, just increase there metabolism?

I'm felling unsure of myself, asking questions, then answering them :P

Thanks again

e k i m high temps increase the metabolism and creates an appetite... continue with the high temps (88-90) and continue with the salt (1 tbs of salt per 10 gals). Also the 20 gallon tank that they are in may seem too cramped... if you can place them back in the 30 gallon tank and continue with the WC. Also use CBW's .

Thanks for the help, :)

two more.....

What is an ideal dKH?
Recently my tap water is at 0-1 dKH
and i'm using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to raise it to 2 - 3dKH!
What do you all use to raise KH?

Thanks again

it can take a while for them to get use to there new home....give it time..
as posted...salt and higher temp should help....If you can, a little decor, like driftwood(even fake) in the tank helps. a fish with a place to hide, feels more secure and will actually be out and about more....they just like having it there..............
good luck
