Blue Diamonds

At what age on average do Blue diamond females start to lay. And at what age do the males become fertile. I know that Red Turks are early spawners was woundering about Blue Diamonds. Thanks all Jim & Diane :)

Hi Jim,
The Blue Diamond females they can start lay eggs about 7 to 9 mo. old,and the males BD become fertile around 14 to 16 mo. old.

From my experience the females would start laying at about 9 mths onwards. The males would take a longer times as what Danny has mentioned.

Roy how big are your female Blue Diamonds at 9 months when they begin to lay eggs?

I have never seen or heard of 7months. Unless they are the that new super blue diamond someone created with big eyes and 4" body.

The size of the females varies from fish to fish depending on growth rate. The sizes should be about 4-5" excluding tail but i did not really measure them nor use them for breeding till 12 mths of age.

Jim mine were 2 years old before they started spawning.

I have a BD male that is paired with a BDxSS at 14 months he is still shooting blanks.

All,

Try not to let your blue diamonds spawn too young. Let them beef up. I find BD's thin very easily. I have mixed experience in male's starting to breeding anywhere from 14 mths to 2.5 yrs.

So have patience in your fish and don't give up. :)

I would like to see that blue diamond male myself MY BD pair was two years old easy
