I just got this from Jim Shedden. It's an infrared temp gun. Point it at anything you want, hit the trigger and INSTANTLY get a temp reading of the object.

I now know the temp of almost EVERY item in my house ;D

HEY.......... maybe I could find I use for this gun in my fish room. Hmmmmmmm, I'll have to give that more thought :) :D ;D

That is really cool. Now we can see just how much the heaters in our tanks are really off. Anyone want to guess? :)

Cool!! ANd I just dropped my digital thermometer into my aquarium last night. :-[ So how well does it work with water?

I have wondered how well those work on fish tanks. Do you get the same reading if you point at the tank as you do if you point directly at the water? how about still water a nd bubbling water? And, how about glass tanks to water vs. acrylic tanks to water? Just a couple oof things to check while you are playing. Then you can say you are doing valuable research. Have fun.

We use the same gun for tire temps on the race car, we find them very accurate!!

Hi,
I have had one for a while. I used it for automotive work. After Jim mentioned using it with the aquariums, I tried it and like it. I point it at the sponge filter for an accurate reading. Also point it in the water barrel for water changes to check the temp.

Fun too! ;D

Mr. Limpid,

I have both glass and acrylic tanks. I'm finding a 2 F degree difference from taking them temp pointing it at the side of the tank, glass or acrylic, vs. pointing it directly at the water.

::)

i understand they are used fairly common in the autotech world.. i was thinking of buying one for my garage. find which cylinders are running cooler for misfires and stuff.

could be handy with lots of tanks, good idea! i wonder why the temp differnce? i image the directly at the water reading would be more accurate.

I bring them in for the mine-sites. They are used a lot underground. I usually have about 6 on hand. If you want one send me a note. I do this for Simply members. I don't make anything on it. Just trying to help out. If you want to drive wilds nuts sit back and point it in the tank. The go right after the dot............I know..........but I've been bored lately. I think I have the shipping figured out. I think Ron got his in pretty good time but it took awhile for Gary. I now know what customs is looking for. On Gary's original order in the discription box for customs I put "Temperature Gun".........customs does not like to see the word gun....they get very upset. Now I put "Lazer Temperature Probe". ............no problems.
