all the pics of the wild heckel discus are really nice, but is anyone here actually breeding them - no not crosses.

I'm keeping them but they are deciding not to breed (they are just getting settled in at this point). There are two people that I know of who have successfully bred heckel to heckel, there is a post on it that I'm sure someone will put a link to. It's about the pH and hardness.

Dennis Hardenburger in Oregon has bred Heckle to Heckle in the past and posted pictures. He has very soft water naturally. Right now he has Wild Curiperas that he is working with.

I'm trying to. But since I just started today, its too soon to report any thing. :)

I'd love to be able to say I did, and then give the owner of these fish (francisco) some nice fry!

I am sure you will be able to breed the heckels, but Jeff Doty is collecting them so watch out, the market might become flooded. ha ha

Unfortunatly I am going to be working in Medford and only home on the week ends for a while, and the wife just doesn't have the time to maintain breeding tanks, so the curipera that have been spawning went back in a community tank on the drip system. Got them past the egg eating stage but the males are still shooting blanks, will put them back in the breeding tanks in a month or so.

I don't know Dennis, if Jeffs trying, I'd put my money on him..... he's on a winning streak with breeding wilds :)

Al,

I've seen pics of Francisco's Heckels! They are very nice. Are you just babysitting them or has he donated them to the Brewmaster breeding program?

And when can I come see them??

;D

it takes luck, workable specimens, and a long drawn-out process simulating the seasonal changes in the amazon, a high pressure weather system would'nt hurt either
